The Everything Mars Thread

And this has to do with Mars ... how?

The iron dust on Mars would create an infrastructure or a base process from which colonists would have something to strive for and achieve.

Human's haven't survived for millions of years just roaming around the planet hunting, eating, sleeping and reproducing.

Most humans however still live with the mentality of a caveman.

The Mars One Plan in order to grow would need to have facilities that would actually produce a product. A product that could be used elsewhere in the Sol system as well as on Earth.

Easier yes...but species do not evolve and survive if it is easy ... Transporting iron dust from Mars would create a thriving infrastructure from iron dust harvestors roaming over the planets surface to transports hauling the dust to new planets. It's actually a must for the human factor to survive.

Uh, hauling sand around the solar system has nothing to do with evolution.

Human's haven't survived for millions of years just roaming around the planet hunting, eating, sleeping and reproducing.

True, because humans haven't been around for millions of years. Although depending on your definition of "human", the genus homo has been around for about three million years... and for over 99% of that time, that's exactly how they survived.

Most humans however still live with the mentality of a caveman.

Oh, so you agree with me.

And hauling sand around has to do with evolution ... how?

Another tale told by Dryson, full of sand and fury ... signifying nothing.

I'm quite sure interplanetary colonists would have plenty to strive for without worrying about ferrying iron dust all over the solar system.

Have humans been around for millions of years?

Elon Musk will severely damage one of his knees in the space effort. So the first colonists will make an artificial joint out of iron. (Oh, the iron knee.)

Have humans been around for millions of years?

Yes, although most of those early humans were hunched over from traveling about in those continent-wide underground tunnels. :brickwall:

Ha! Ha! Silverninja beat you both to it.

SHHH! It means he actually made a correct statement. Don't jinx it.

Quickly, slay it before it reproduces! Worse, before it puns again.

Ferrying iron dust that has been processed would have create business and infrastructure that would be necessary to the economy of mars

Mars rover Curiosity has discovered that there is water locked up in the Martian dirt, with each cubic foot of surface soil made up of 2 percent water. See our full story on the Mars water discovery and our gallery below:

Where's the story and gallery?

So unless you've started writing for space.com I'm assuming this is actually supposed to be a quote and not your own writing.

It's also from 26 Sep 2013.

Don't do that again.

Maybe we should focus on figuring out if it's even possible to live on Mars before we start worrying about its economy.

If humans can live in space inside of a space station as well as living on the Moon for a few days I am certain that humans can live on Mars.

Its only a matter of getting their establishing a base of industrial infrastructure such as sending Martian Dust back to Earth to be sold that would then fund further expeditions to Mars.

Hell I would drink a Martian Soil and Tonic just to say that I did.

If you can overlook the gi-normous gap between
living .... for a few days
and
establishing a base of industrial infrastructure
(i.e. establishing sustainability and self-sufficiency among many other things) ... well... you get points for being consistent, anyway.
