Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans?

Re: Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans

When I am mocking them I only do in in my thoughts not out loud. Thats pretty impressive in my book.

Meh, not impressed; anyone can do that. The things I think about the comic geeks who seem to live at the Alliance Comics shop down the street and take comics seriously would curl your hair.

And the amount of things you think that are probably true would be even more frightening

Re: Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans

I laugh at both comic book fans and comic movie fans equally

We true fans wear spandex everyday and only eat foods that rhyme with the word comic

Do you ever get tired of eating Balsamic dressing?

Oh, if much of what I think were actually true the world would be a very frightening place.

My derision is directed toward anyone who takes their chosen fandoms so seriously that they feel the need to try and make themselves feel somehow superior to anyone else whose appreciation of said fandoms is even slightly deviated from their own "tastes".

"What? ! You like Star Trek TNG but not TOS?! You offend me as a fan! "

"What? ! You started your fandom of The Avengers because of the movies?! You never read a single comic! You are beneath me! "

"What? ! Your appreciation of Star Trek is based on those Abrams movies? ! You don't know shit about TRUE STAR TREK! And you are an accessory to the raping of my childhood!"

"What? ! You actually liked the Star Wars prequel trilogy? ! You liked the Special Editions of the OT! Stay the fuck away from me! "

And yes, these people (some them actually vote....God help us) take their fandoms to that extreme. Many of us have met such slime. They are the lowest of the low. They are the ones who are offensive.

Well not the lowest of the low. I think people have done and act much worse than nerdy comic book fans. Hmmm maybe I am overreacting to get such a response. I now recant everything I have said and will reform. I will try and understand comic movie only fans and not be so judgmental.

Comics, movies... It's all make believe stuff, anyway. (Yes, much of it is well-crafted.)
But most casual moviegoers just wouldn't even know where to begin with the comics, and the prospect of having to familiarize themselves with 70+ years' worth of comics continuity.

And this kind of divide doesn't only happen with comics. There are plenty of avid readers of J.R.R. Tolkien who do not like Peter Jackson's LOTR and Hobbit movie adaptations, and are appalled at the movie-only fans who aren't interested in reading the books.

I can certainly understand the appeal of relaxing for a couple hours at the theater to enjoy a fast-moving adaptation of a story, instead of having to sit at home every day for five months to read the original version of the story.

Not annoyed by people only liking the movies but it is a bit annoying when people, comics fans and especially non-comics fan, claim that an actor or an overall movie is the prefect representation of the comics, that the comics have either all been one way rather than varied or the opposite extreme, that the comics have been endlessly diverse so the fans should accept whatever the movies present.

Similarly, that I dislike that an adaptation changed something doesn't mean I take things too seriously, that liking an adaptation or sequel should be the default state.

Agreed. This is true for many fans.

They wouldn't know where to begin Kor?

Any one that's seen Pretty Woman knows where to begin,

"You work on commission right?"

Saw AoU today and came across one of these movie-only fans. Kid couldn't have been more than five, excitedly exclaiming over and over during and after the...

"That's Thanos! That's Thanos!"

Didn't seem so bad to me.

I don't mind that. Its the adults who picked on others back when they were in younger (i.e. late teens early 20s) that read comic books back in the day and are now seeing the movies because its the cool thing to do now. Those are the annoying ones.

Letting go of previous aggressions done against you is a sign of maturity. I have a secret--those people from high school?--you're going to meet far worse in your life, and your early life experiences help provide you with the social training you'll need to deal with it.

That said, if people not saying excuse me when they cut in front of you or speaking too loud at public gatherings is something annoying enough to cause you so much emotion, then you have lived a pretty lucky life.

Maybe it's time to let go of the fact that you were bullied as a kid and stop projecting your high school neuroses on the real world in a lame excuse to feel superior to people who haven't actually done anything to you.

BOTH of you chill a bit, okay? It's clear how you feel but the incessant attacking of one side of various fandoms helps not at all.

Understood. Bowing out.

Re: Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans

This conversation is starting to give me flashbacks to when Cracked did an article on the 'fake fangirls' comments that tend to wander around the Internet.

http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-7-most-ridiculous-things-about-calling-out-fake-fangirls/

Check out the comment section. The number one 'reason' people gave to 'excuse' their behavior was "I only do it because these sort of people would have picked on me 10 years ago."

Thankfully, Cracked has a pretty broad readership, and said accused 'fangirls' (and the male comic fans without raging victim complexes) were pretty quick to come to their defence. It's probably the least 'I weep for humanity' Cracked comment section that I ever read. Or at least it was.

Ok. I am out of this one also.
