Posters on CBR said that was one the main reason New 52 was created. Boost sales and revive drowning titles. Smart move IMO.
There's an argument to be made that the New 52 saved the comic book industry after the 2009 Great Recession. It brought people back into stores, retailers saw their sales go up across the board (since there were now more people in shops), and we've seen continual growth over the last four years.
The people at Marvel would disagree with that viewpoint, yet I'd argue that Marvel has actually
benefitted from the New 52, because, again, more people came into shops, which meant there were more opportunities for retailers to sell customers on Marvel products.
