I showed my fiancé both seasons of OITNB, and he said absolutely nothing about Voyager. He knew that I loved Red--I was a Russian major in college, so I've developed an appreciation for most Russian characters. One day he turned on the pilot of Voyager on Netflix while I was working on a project, and I looked up and saw Red standing right there before me. Needless to say, I asked something equivalent to "WTF" to my fiancé, yet he didn't seem to get why I was so shocked by his omission. I've been in love with Voyager ever since and have expanded to TNG and a little bit to TOS.

I can't wait until the 3rd season of OITNB. I watched the last one within a week of it coming out, so it seems like it's been decades since I've seen it haha! I feel like I'll have a whole new appreciation for Red now that I've seen her command a starship, kill a Tuvix, and leave hundreds of replicated people on some demon planet in the Delta quadrant. What a weirdo!

^ It took a lot of getting use to for me seing Mulgrew's dramatic physical change. I couldnt bring myself to watch OITNB for sometime. I was like OMG!. Why? What happened..

To be honest , it was share and utter boredom which bought me to watch it . I still have those "OMFG ! Why ? What happened ? " moments , but get so immense in Red that one forgets the " OMFG ! Why? What happened? Life aint the bad surely" - moments

I think Mulgrew has become a lot more fierce in that character .. A real sinisterly evil person. Especially in the scene which she has with Nicky , when one of the inmates overdosed . She said something along the lines of wanting to take someone out or something ..

Although , i enjoy Red. I cannot surpass Janeway . Their is no match for me . Janeway is far superior in every sense of the word and i greatly miss her . Mulgrew was correct when she said Red allowed her to let go and boy - let go she did ..shockingly so..

As for her guest appearance on I live with models...I cannot - for the life of me comprehend what came over Mulgrew to accept a role in " I live with models" .OMFG.. That was as bad as Mercy or NTSF.. Why does she insist of arming her bar so low at times , in desperation for work?.. I dont get it

No need to laugh, but I believe she hasn't 100% gone there. She's just saying that. She's insecure but she's getting there. I also know they make her look more aged on the show. Taylor too. (Circles, not lines)They said the goal is to make them look as naturally in hell as possible to show the wear of prison. I see age lines on OITNB that were not there in person (on Kate) Just fyi. Her face still has some smoothness to it.

..Ok i wont laugh...

It is hard press not to notice.. I have always said the best look for her was the 4 Season of Voyager. In particularly in the episode " Hope and fear and Year of hell" . She had it "down packed" in every way .

I recall taking a huge step back when i say her on the 6th season of Voyager . It has more or less continued from that point on..We all get older and people change dramatically than others. I get that. She said she doesn't care because it is apparent.

Erm , i didnt realise it was make up on OITNB to achieve that.... Look.. I just thought it was Mulgrew just out of bed and into the studio- maybe with a little help of foundation For that part she just needs little or no make up
Mulgrew can let go completely as Red and she did ..

On the flip side off screen, she certainly has "shaped up " a little when it comes to her style of dress.. Real sharp . The short hair style looks great on her. Always have done

It was nice of the Daily News to remember Kate's birthday and to post videos from her most well known roles.

I never watched Ryan's Hope, but I've seen bits of some episodes on YouTube. The Daily News uploaded a whole episode. The guy that Mary Ryan married, Jack, seemed like a sexist jerk. Did anyone watch that show regularly? Based on just that episode I was hoping that Mary would leave the a-hole.

^^I never watched "Ryan's Hope", but I know it was the show that began Rosie O'Donnell's fascination with the actress. Rosie's interviews with Mulgrew are legion on youtube.

You can see how empathetic Kate is with Rosie and her fan girl crush after learning her host had lost her own mother too young and seemed to fix on Mulgrew as a maternal alternative.

I suspect their friendship grew beyond simply host/guest since O'Donnell is hosting her NYC 5/3 night at the Vineyard Theater.

Yes, Rosie and Kate are friends. Rosie was a big soap opera fan. Watching TV helped her with the pain of losing her mother. She has spoken about it in the past. She was a fan of Mary Ryan, but she must have seen her more like a sister than a mother figure. There's only a 7 year difference between Kate and Rosie.
