Top choices for topping Capaldi?

Well as we all know most Doctor who actors tend to only hang about for three runs in the Blue Box.. So if that holds true, we are nearly half way to number 3.. if so, who would you decide to fill the role of the 14th incarnation *13th Doctor? Or is it vice versa.. can't keep the numbering down in light of the war doctor..

anyhow, I can only think of a handful of actors who can compete with Capaldi in terms of style.. but this is a question of topping Capaldi.. not finding a replacement..

I can only think of a few to fill that role.. and the number one Guy that would make the show come to a new level, is Sherlock Holmes himself.. Benedict Cumberbatch! I think Cumberbatch would ratchet the series up a notch to new depths, and if there is a replacement of the Moff.. Who could top him as a fan and lover of the show, but bring in a new exciting direction not seen before??

This thread doesn't have to be about just topping the Doctor as far as actors.. but it can cover all aspects of topping the current cast, crew, directors and sets! Honestly tho, could we bring back the prydonian red jackets the fourth and third wore.. black, tan, and so on are okay, but something about that doc wearing red hits home.. How ABOUT a Peter Cushing/Doctor Who Baby Blue scarf?

I say if they do get Cumberbatch as a new doctor.. then give us a new set! either a Captain Nemo feel circa 1960s disney, or bring back the "round things"... I love the round things..

I vote that they go completely bonkers and hire Jenna Coleman to play the Doctor next time around. The newly regenerated Doctor would be very confused as to why she looks like her former companion. She'd be the unlucky one (13th Doctor). Also the Doctor would have a hard time considering everyone who has heard of the Doctor expects a male. He has been male for several thousand years now across even more of that in time and space.

Be funny if that 13th Doctor ran onto an old companion or two. Tegan, Amy, Rose, Captain Jack, or Ace. Any of those would be hightly confused (Captain Jack would still hit on the Doctor). Or River Song even. River might not even like this Doctor.

Peter Davision was fairly well known for his role as Tristan in All Creatures Great and Small when he was cast as the Doctor.

I'd say Hartnell and Pertwee were both pretty well known as well.

Anyway, my suggestion is Olivia Colman, an award winning actress who can do anything from screwball comedy through to kitchen sink drama and has the neccesary degree of quirkiness about her to play the Doctor.

Two years ago I wanted Romola Garai as the twelfth Doctor. She'd still work as the thirteenth.

Agreed. I'd certainly pick Carmichael over Dockery. Although, if we're going with Downton cast members, I remember being very impressed with the subtle physical humor that Amy Nuttall brought to the role of Ethel.

I was pulling for Rachel Weisz for a while. I liked the way that she played vaguely distracted and recklessly adventurous in the Mummy movies.

But, truly, I'm absolutely head-over-heels in love with Capaldi right now and I hope he stays on beyond the traditional three and some change seasons that Tennant & Smith did!

Agreed! I havent been interested in NuWho until Capaldi. For me he ranks up there with Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee & Colin Baker as Doctors whose performances raise the show above the script.

I too would like to see Capaldi stay for more than three years. But after him I wouldn't mind seeing Matthew MacFadyn, Michael Praed or Tom Mison take over the part.
