Survivor 30 - Worlds Apart Discussion *SPOILERS*

Yeah, that blindside was pretty hilarious. I'm sure editing plays some part in it, but it's funny how often the person that suddenly becomes over-confident and talks about how comfortable they are with their position in the game is usually the one that gets screwed over in the next tribal council. Max especially stood out in this way.

Great show tonight between Joe hanging on for dear life to get the Individual Immunity Idol when everyone wanted to vote him out and Jenn getting stung in the vagina by a radioactive bee that gave her bee-sense so she could know to play her Hidden Immunity Idol at Tribal Council. It's always fun to see the people on the outs live to play another day through strong challenge performances or smart strategy.

Of all the blue-collars, I didn't mind Kelli, so it's sad to see her go, even if the circumstances that got her voted out were glorious. I'd much rather see that loudmouth idiot Rodney or the flip-flopper/quitter Will go. Rodney's only entertainment value is his dumbfounded stares when things don't go his way.

Looks like the Amazing Race thread got garbage collected.

It seems pretty obvious now CBS is killing the show. Putting a serial format show in a time slot they knew would have a two week hiatus for the NCAA tournament. Also, not that the show hadn't always had blatant marketing, but it's become even more blatant this season. Definitely the worst non-family season.

On to Survivor. "Merica?!" I thought that was a word people used to make fun of redneck stereotypes.

I have no idea who's going to win this season. It's probably going to be like last season where the person who wins is the person who manages to wiggle out the right path at the end. Even though the no collars escaped a week with the idol, they're still probably everyone's target.

I'm surprised Jen held on after getting stung. Using the idol was great though. I feel she might hang on a little longer. I kind of like the no collar crowd, but I think it was stupid of Will to flip. I like Tyler and Carylin are playing smart.

I can't think of a single Survivor cast member I actually like. But of all of them whose names I can remember, I dislike Carolyn the least. She demonstrated intelligence in going for the idol early, and hopefully sharing that she has it won't come back to get her voted out.

The Amazing Race this time around is just pitiful. Only one of the women in the singing task was remotely on key, and those two guys just giving up and taking the train and taxis everywhere? Why even bother - they should have just told the camera guys to take them to the pit stop so they could give up then and there.

By this point it should be obvious that if you're going to be on The Amazing Race, you need to learn to drive a variety of vehicles, learn to swim, and if you're afraid of heights, try to get help for that before you start the race.

Wasn't it only one of those guys who wanted to quit, because he realized he 'Wasn't going to find love' with a stranger on national TV, and had absolutely no respect for the fact that his racing partner actually needed the money?

I would agree that Tyler and Carolyn are the only ones playing anything resembling an intelligent game, but they aren't good at building trust. You could argue Will is playing a strong social game, as he has been good at finding his way into the correct alliance. I think Joe is done for the moment he loses an immunity challenge, but it might not happen until there is a strictly non-physical challenge. If Joe wins immunity next week, Jenn is gone, but if Joe loses one while Jenn is still around, she might manage her way into a new alliance.

Yeah, one basically quit trying for that reason, but wasn't it a mutual decision to give up trying to figure out how to drive the car and take the penalty for not following the instructions?

This season is getting better. Two thing I predicted: Joe would win the reward and Mike would find the idol. I'm starting to like Mike and I'm thinking he might go far. Joe is the biggest threat right now. Will is quite possibly the most useless player. Shiri is riding coatails. Glad Haley is out, there's no way she could be a lawyer. Jen is lost. Rodney is just plain annoying. So is Dan. Tyler and Carlyn still seem to be playing a good game. I think Mike will make it to probably the final five, but I'm not sure he will win. Good for Mike though, he seems to be the hardest working player. His downfall will be challenges.

"I would leave my kid with Rodney before I would leave my kid with Dan."

Epic Survivor banter.

Joe is quite the all-around competitor. He's got the athletic prowess of Ozzy, the intelligence of Cochran, and the social game and likeability of Yul. It paints a huge target on his back, but I hope he can hang in there.

Joe's a great competitor but he's put himself in a position where he absolutely needs to win seven straight challenges. Could he, of course. But undefeated teams aren't guaranteed a thing in single elimination tournaments (Reference!). Ozzy couldn't do it, Terry couldn't do it, Malcolm couldn't do it with the advantage. If there's a rope cutting immunity, he's toast. One puzzle that doesn't resonate with him the right way, somebody else slides in. Or if he happens to be bad at balancing balls on plates or something.

Tyler and Carolyn have the only thing resembling a good strategic game, but they have to work harder to find a lane to the end. Their current road runs off a cliff at 7 or 8 and relies on swinging Will, Sierra and Shirin, and convincing somebody not to go to the finals against Dan and Rodney.

Mike's got the best road now, as he has the complete loyalty of the two best possible allies: People who are completely unlikable, but are under the impression they are extremely likable. The one good opportunity to stop him from winning will come if Joe never loses an immunity, or if Tyler and Carolyn can rally people at exactly the right time.

So... Jenn wants to quit but not so it looks like quitting, except she came out and admitted it in tribal council, so it doesn't matter anyway? :wtf:

Well, I didn't like Joe at first, but now I'm sorry he's gone. Nobody left to root for except Carolyn.

Yeah, Joe was probably my favorite but I totally understand why he'd be voted out. Such a strong player.

I have no idea who to root for now.

Maybe Sierra because she literally hasn't said a word or done anything so I have nothing to dislike about her.

Definitely not Shirin. IF I ran Yahoo, she wouldn't have a job when she got back.

Mike's actually turned into a somewhat smart player, but there's something about him that makes me want to kick him in the junk.

Dan is worse than AIDS.

Rodney should have been the first one voted out.

Will just rides other people's coattails, one of my least favorite qualities in a human being.

Yeah, no one really standing out.

Mike or Tyler would be my choices to win right now because they're the only ones who have actually demonstrated any intelligent game. Carolyn would also be acceptable.

Even though he hasn't done much my fourth choice might actually be Will, just because even though he hasn't made big moves he has made a lot of correct choices in terms of who to side with, and nobody else can say that. Not the best strategic player but the best social player remaining.

Dan seems like an okay guy but he thinks he's a really strong player when really he's just not. Rodney is the Philip of this season.

If I had to choose between the final three I guess I'd pick Shirin over Sierra or Jenn. She's a bad player but at least she's trying. She might be this season's Sherri. Jenn is likable but has given up and at least made one good move to protect herself. Sierra just has this obnoxious, vindictive way about her and no game to back it up.

Joe seemed like a really cool guy but I'm always rooting against the guy who can only stay in by winning challenges.

Dear Jenn, if you want to go home so bad there's an easy way to do that, just quit.

But she can't quit, because she's not a quitter. She'll just try really hard to get people to vote her off, which is not quitting according to some convoluted logic and denialism in her head.

Jenn confuses me. I'm still not even clear if she wants to go home. One of her comments was that 'the more I complain about wanting to go home...the less likely the others will be to vote me out'...which only makes sense if you have never watched this show before.

Shirin's super-survivor knowledge, on the other hand, seems limited to being able to count to five.

Finally caught today's episode. That was a confusing episode. It's like a tutorial on how NOT to play Survivor. Is Mike a complete imbecile, not to know that keeping people's trust is more important than a single use advantage of any kind, except in the specific case where you're in the minority by 1 or 2 votes? And then Will goes off on personal attacks?

And the only person to display any kind of game intelligence this episode was Rodney, the one person who displayed the absolute least for the rest of the game.

I can understand Will getting angry because the others accused him of holding back food. He didn't have to share any of that with them, but chose to.

But yeah, he went over the top. The sooner he's gone, the better. And Jenn finally got her wish, so we won't be seeing any more of her smirks, which will be nice.

Still rooting for Carolyn, since she's the only who isn't either dumb or nasty.
