I agree, the bent pylons are stupid. But from above their gentle sweep backwards reminds me of the [also] beloved, Refit. <sob>

It's most distinctive feature for me from day one though was the angled deflector dish enclosure. That, including [exactly!] the other things you mentioned, are what sells the 'hot rod' vision to me.

I might be more forgiving of the NuE if they'd just try to even out all the awkward proportions. Losing the 'skinny jeans' nacelles and moving them away from each other may be a good start.

"Skinny Jeans" nacelles? That's a interesting way to describe them.

I see you rank the C low on both lists. I dunno, it just didn't have any nice 'lines' or 'grace' to it. Even the Excelsior and B had a bit of grace and design to them and I'm not the biggest fan of those. The C just looked... dull to me.

The version of the Ent-C that was depicted on the D's briefing room wall - that is to say, what the C was really supposed to look like - was, IMHO, far superior to the hastily done half-assed version shown in "Yesterday's Enterprise".

The original design isn't bad, but looks too much like the D. I like the Ambassador class we got on screen better as a predecessor to the D.

That ship looks awesome. To me that design has it all. Grace yet just enough hint that it's a bad ass starship, great details - love the impulse engines, shape of the secondary hull (which has a strong JJPrise look to it), saucer, cargo doors and pylons. I think it's far better than the D and even the E.

In fact I think that is instantly one of my favourite Enterprise designs. Quite a turn around!

It's not a bad design, I just never bought it as a predecessor to the Galaxy-class.

The one in Yesterday's Enterprise, yes. The Probert one I can see as the D's predecessor, the shape of the dish is halfway to the D, but by the same token the impulse engines are also halfway to the B's. I really like it.

I just wanted to say I agree with everything you've said 100%! I just wish this design had been the Enterprise D.

I like the design because I was always a fan of D but I have to agree it looks to advanced to be a predecessor. I didn't know the ship existed. I would have liked to see it as a current ship in the TNG era. Too bad they didn't use it

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

This will be an extremely hard question to vote on. I feel that all iterations of NCC-1701 were appropriate to their time and place in Star Trek history.

The original was a groundbreaking, revolutionary design that retains its charm today. It would certainly look out of place in the flashiness of the Abrams films, but it is undoubtedly a respectable ship.

The new Abrams Enterprise is a brilliant update of that original design. Initially I found the design strange, but then I realised that in my mind I was comparing it to the refit version of the Enterprise. As such, I thought the nacelles were too far back and too large, I had a look at the original TOS Enterprise, and it seems that the design was intentional. Now it is a favourite of mine, in many angles (especially from the front) it is simply magnificent.

My preference has so far been the Refit version, which I feel is one of my favourite ship designs of all time.

I've been staring at that poll for two months and I now realized what's wrong with it. It's missing the only correct answer: "Yes."

Bare nacelles have no place on this forum!

:p

I keep trying to talk myself into liking the new ship but no luck. All it takes is one look at it from a bad angle and any progress is lost.

I agree. It looks bad from so many angles because of the oversized nacelles and neck pylon. From the votes so far I would say some must agree with us.
