So I started watching "Babylon 5" for the first time.

Just finished War Without End Part 1 and 2.

Ambassador Sinclair/Michael O'Hare!!!

I read up about his struggle with mental illness. Truly sad. JMS heartfelt story of O'Hare dedication to the role and to the show; allowing it to continue without him, when JMS wanted to put it on hiatus/cancel it.

True class act.

Jeez - Can't wait to hear what you think of the season finale then!!!

JUMP!

JUMP NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

You really should, for authenticities sake, wait 9 months between the final episode of season 3 and the primer for season 4 like most of us did back in the 90s.

With all of the old shows being revived, like X-Files and now Coach and Full House, I have to wonder if JMS is going convince somebody to give B5 another try? I know they tried to do those DVD movies that never made it past the first one, but I wouldn't mind another return to the B5 universe. Which reminds me, I've still never watched Crusade.

As a B5 fan: watch Crusade expecting very little of what made B5 so good. Crusade is very typical 90s sci-fi, IMO, and the infamous studio meddling on the series is very evident. A lot of wasted promised with that series. You can get the whole, short, run on DVD at Wal-Mart for $10 (usd).

There was some recent talk of a theater B5 movie, but I don't know if anything's come from that.

Lol

I won't do that but I will hold off on season 5. I think that's a fair trade. I'm midway through season 4 atm. Reading up on the series, it seems I'm in for the ultimate letdown when I get to season 5.

The 5 season has its shortcomings story wise, but overall it's a good watch. Had they had confirmation of getting a fifth season earlier, there would have been better story flow from year 4 to 5. It's not as bad as some say, except for the hair.

Season 5 lost too much momentum because the finale of season 4 should have been at the start of season 5. It doesn't really find it's feet and start to build up momentum until half way through. Also the traditional triumvirate format was dismantled and no character appeared in every episode so it was a bit of a culture shock. Some characters make a welcome return but I would have liked to have seen a few others.

It definitely feels like there should have been a movie like Serenity years ago but so many of the cast has died now and a fair few have given up acting :(

More specifically, the hair on that damn Byron.

Late to the game here:

I loved Babylon 5 from the beginning. I thought it really hit its stride when Sheridan took over as commander, but all the episodes are enjoyable.

I enjoyed two of the telemovies: Babylon 5: The Gathering and Babylon 5: In the Beginning.

Londo and G'kar were two of my favorite cbaracters. Especially loved the episode where they were trapped in an elevator together during a station crisis.

I loved Ivanova. (got to meet Claudia Christian too....such a nice lady).

The season 5 problem: if they'd known for sure that there'd be a season five, then the 'civil war' plot line would have carried on into the first six episodes of season five, and the Byron/telepath plot would have been a B or C-plot in the background, which later become Very Important.
Unfortunately, it didn't happen like that, so season five has a very weak opening. And the Byron actor... isn't really charismatic enough for the role (Though I'm not sure anyone could have been).

It's MACO's first time through, so take it would be nice to take it easy on spoilerish info and let him have his own impressions.

But the surprising thing is, even "The Gathering" exists as a 16x9 PAL tape, as WB made three copies of the show: a 4x3 NTSC and 4x3 PAL version, along with a 16x9 PAL version, and the 16x9 PAL version is that version that all the DVD's in the world are sourced from.

WB's claim that the DVD's were all-new digital transfers was all a lie, as the 16x9 versions had existed for years before the DVD was released.

Too bad that said tape wan't a S-VHS master, instead...;)

Which ones have given up acting, pardon my asking?
