Will the Trekkie become extinct? That question can only be answered if we know how new Trekkies are created. Vote and let's find out! What made you become a fan? Was it the movies, the series, a book?

I am no longer a Trekker/Trekkie/fan of anything anymore, but my love for Star Trek started back in '72 with watching reruns of TOS, and the first run of TAS in '72. I was 4 at the time.

What fascinated me were the phasers, the Klingons, and the shuttlecraft....probably because there was so little of any of them. As I grew older, I came to appreciate the stories.

I remember the first model my dad bought for me back then....the Galileo shuttlecraft. I also remember having a strong desire for the "Exploration Kit" which had a phaser, a communicator, and a tricorder.

The second model I got was the Klingon battlecruiser.

And now, in the era of the new Star Trek's, I find my love for all things Trek rekindled. :)

I was born a fan thanks to my mom, and I will die a fan.

I will also be a fan long after death.

I've been a fan since as far back as I can remember. For me, that means it was Deep Space Nine which properly inculcated a love of Star Trek in me.

I very deliberately watched all through The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager when I was just old enough to retain all the information and I saw Enterprise as it was coming about just before then.

I watched all through The Original Series when it was being shown at the crack of dawn on the Sci-Fi channel (I would watch it everyday before I went to school).

I saw The Animate Series when it was on Virgin Media's On Demand service.

I have the least familiarity with the films, though I seen all of them at least once (except the latest one because: No way!) and Star Trek: The Motion Picture was my favourite, followed by the Undiscovered Country and First Contact.

Addendum:

I loved the Romulans almost as long and that was solidified after I first read "The Romulan Way" which I love to death and consider, in its essentials, canonical.

It startet with TNG (I voted for it) and TOS when I was 15. At the same time I started to read and collect the novels. The only series I never warmed to is Enterprise. I started to read the DS9 novels without knowing the whole series. While being busy with the relaunch novels I finally acquired the DS9 DVDs.
But TNG was the beginning, so to speak. I rememder the much discussed episode "Conspiracy", with the famous Remmick/parasites scene removed in the German version. They forgot to remove that scene in the later episode "Shades of Gray". That´s why I prefer TNG from season 3 onward.

I´m a collector of novels up to today. Approximately 450 ST novels I call my own. I read them both in English and German.

I saw Voyager for the first time on TV when I visited relatives in California 1995.

Now I´m 36. :)

I just realized I forgot to include 'Star Trek Video Game'. Oh well, I doubt anyone became a fan because of those... things. They were mostly awful. (Although ST Voyager: Elite Force is quite good)

Is it even possible to add an option to a poll? I can't find an edit button.

I have a friend who makes a lot of Trek references. In 2012 I finally gave in and began watching TOS to see why they like Star Trek so much. I was hooked after a few episodes and went on to TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and the movies.

I'm figuring that as I push that boulder up the hill, "And the Children Shall Lead" will be playing in the background for all eternity.

Or maybe you'll be trapped between universes, grappling with your antimatter double for all eternity . . .

"But what of BillJ . . . ?"

That would be an upgrade where "And the Children Shall Lead" is concerned!

:techman:

The thng I'm really looking forward to is seeing the latest movie (probably the fourth reboot or something) seventy or eighty years from now for free, because, as a spirit, nobody will know I'm there.

And I won't be limited to whatever candy or drinks the theater sells, I can bring m own, and make it whatever I want.:bolian:

You wouldn't be able to buy candy and drinks at the theater if you wanted to because you would no longer have the arm and the leg that they cost. :rommie:
