I don't think they're doing Stoneheart at all, which is fine by me. That whole thread didn't really work for me.

Brienne I expect to last the series out and end up with Jamie one way or another.

I think Jon Snows 'incident' will prove less catastrophic than it seems but would make a great end of season cliffhanger.

They still haven't finished Jon's storyline from A Storm of Swords, so there's no way they could get to the end of A Dance With Dragons so soon.

Mance will get burned this episode. Question is, will it be the fake Mance / Rattleshirt from the books? Or the real Mance, and the whole Abel the Bard storyline is out the window?

Bronn may die in Dorne. He has little more to do in the books as far as we know. Barristan may die in Meereen, even though he is set to lead the army in the Battle of Fire in TWoW. Theon still has story left, as does Varys. (Someone has to shoot Pycelle and Kevan with a crossbow after all.)

I'm kinda thinking Barristan too. Or maybe even Ser Jorah? I do get the impression that things over that side of the sea will be pretty different from the books.

Of course, no doubt I'll be proven wrong as usual.

Martin has shared his plans for the last (two ?) novels with the showrunners. He also apparently writes the viewpoint characters chapters in bursts rather a chapter for A, then one for B, then C etc. He may already have written some characters well into the last novel.

Any differences in the route taken by the show will be for storytelling reasons, there won't be a lot of differences in who actually makes it to the last book as all concerned know the endgame.

^Indeed but it does appear that at least one character will survive longer in the books than on tv. That seems pretty much confirmed from the reviews. Plus it doesn't look like we'll get an Ironborn invasion of Mereen, among other things.

It does sound like the whole Ironborn subplot may be cast aside, from the Kingsmoot all the way up to the advance of the fleet.

Won't hurt my feelings either way. I found that whole thing to be really lacking in substance and Damphair's droning repetitiveness and uber-piety especially annoying.

What development? That's been basically the plan since the pilot. They knew he's too slow, and they'd overtake him. they know where he's going, and are headed basically the same way, if by a slightly different path in places.

May be differences with the books, but the big points will be spoiled by the series likely years before you read them. maybe it'll be long enough that you'll forget some of the details?

I just listened to the entire Oxford Union Q&A and it was very good. They more or less confirmed a Jon theory for season 6. Actor who plays Sam is a riot. Definitely worth listening to.

    By the Jon theory, I'm assuming you mean "R + L = J"?

Huh...I genuinely would have thought that Melisandre would have given Jon some of her Red-Hot R'hllor lovin' to bring him back from the dead. I guess the warging works, too. They had been alluding to it for some time as a potential ability for him. If that happens, he might actually be able to communicate with Bran now that he's tied into the Tree-Cloud.

I'm too lazy to watch the Oxford address. Did they say anything about HBO's purported desire for 10 seasons?

Nothing was said about HBOs wish for 10 seasons.

The theory goes that both will happen. Jon wargs into Ghost at the moment of death, and Mel brings back his body ala Beric. Then Jon un-wargs, which accomplishes what Beric or Stoneheart never did - fully retain his identity and personality.

AH! Gotcha! Thx for the clarification. Guess I was halfway there, then. Would love to see some warg POV scenes.

So, once again Belfast film festival did a preview of the season opener and once again I was lucky enough to win tickets. Another very strong opener.

I'll do a spoilerish review if anyone is interested. As regards the much discussed death of a character who is still alive in the books...hmmm. Well, I'll say nothing for now other than it both makes sense and doesn't make sense that I didn't see this character mentioned in the various posts I saw discussing who might be for the chop. Hard to explain.
