Here I am!

I just finished In the Name of Honor. Interesting TUC prequel. Definitly worth the read.

Now I've started the upcoming Star Wars: Lords of the Sith. Great Vader introspection so far in the first few chapters. Also starting through Volume 2 of DC Comics TOS series.

Came across this review earlier today when I linked through a litverse timeline, the author of which is definitely on here. (Yolasite). Interesting website you have, but I was forced to skim due to my fear of major spoilers.

Thanks, glad you liked it, but indeed, some of my posts can be a little spoilery. If there's something really huge that the plot revolves upon, I generally don't spoil that, though.

And yeah, the Litverse Timeline is a great resource, he has put a lot of work into it!

Just finished reading "Legacy" (ST-TOS #56) by Michael Jan Friedman (1991) which is a good novel with Spock commanding plus an additional Pike story in it too. Prior to that I read "The Communist Manifesto" by Marx & Engels (yet again) in review during reading of "Political Order & Political Decay" by Francis Fukuyama (2014). Also recently read "Eco-Terrorism" by Donald R. Liddick (2006). Is it possible that "terror" and "terrorism" are methods used by both governments and those opposing governments? Can terror be used by individuals on themselves, in families, in religious organizations, and, in governments -- and, sometimes appropriately? What exactly does freedom from fear mean? Being able to read Star Trek without being accused of wasteful frivolosity? I hope to come to terms with a few of these questions with regard to Green issues. More ST = good!

I'm wondering if anyone of this thread (@admins: if this belongs on another thread then feel free to move it/tell me to move it) could give me some pointers on how to continue with my reading.

I'm trying to catch up with all the major arcs (Destiny, Typhon Pact, The Fall) ASAP, but i don't want to skip any books that have a significant amount of relevant plot. I've just finished TTN: Orion's Hounds, and will probably continue to read all the Titan novels because I love the crew, but I'm going by the Simple Post Nemesis Reading List and next up should be TNG: Resistance.

Looking at the list, I still have a really long way to go before I catch up, so I was wondering if there are any books that don't really serve a plot purpose? For example: I'm thinking I'll drop Q&A and You Are Codially Uninvited to read at a later date, but I know I want to read Before Dishonor before I read Destiny. I don't want to miss anything significant, but I'm trying to streamline what is imperative.

^Q&A should not be skipped. It may not be part of the Borg arc, but it's vital to the character arcs of the post-Nemesis TNG novels.

All of the ebook novellas except The Struggle Within and Absent Enemies are pretty skippable. The novels are all pretty important though...

I guess Typhon Pact: Seize the Fire and Titan: Fallen Gods are both pretty bad and don't make much of an impact, they're just standalone Titan adventures that even Titan doesn't really refer to much. That's just about all I can think of, from the novels.

You can also pass on DTI and Voyager until later, if you just want to catch up; those refer to the big picture events, but nothing else really refers to them. Those are some of the best books on the list, though, so you'll want to circle back around eventually.

After that, the Cold Equations trilogy, The Fall and then the last few Post-Fall books that have come out. I have to say, after the greatness of Destiny and the few follow-up books, the Typhon Pact series has been kinda well meh.

Fallen Gods was one of the better Titan novels for me, but it is just a matter of taste.
I was kind of disappointed by Typhon Pact Brinkmanship. Most people think of it as one of the better Typhon Pact novels. I have big hopes for the "The Fall" novels, though.

Typhon Pact is a total mess until Plagues of Night, which knits it all back together and brings it to an outstanding ending in Raise the Dawn.

^The DRG3 TP trilogy were definitely the highlight of the whole run for me! I also liked both Brinkmanship and Zero Sum Game. To each their own

I've already read all the Voyagers, so that's not an issue, but I just can't wait to read Destiny! I've got the trilogy ready to go and waiting for me by my bed, I just don't want to jump into it without the full context.

The last novel I read was "No Time Like the Past" by Greg Cox. (3 out of 5)

I have "Foul Deeds Will Rise" by the same author on the way to my local library, since I do want to read what Lenore Karidian has been up to.

 

[Endgame]

I went on to read "The Forgotten War" (ST-TNG #57) by William R. Forstchen (1999) and I see that at least one checklist in the books spells the name "Fortschen" which I believe is incorrect. An interesting book. Has a awkward almost romance that might have been unexpected. Recently bought "The Quiet Place" (ST-NF #7) by Peter David (1999) as an e-book. But currently reading "Starfleet: Year One" by Michael Jan Friedman (2001). Got a "Captains' Table" tales storybook in used format. May have already had it. Hope to read "Journey to the West" (Chinese literary classic) in English sometime soon. The other three classics are also on my long term "to do" list. It would be nice to completely do Chaucer (Canterbury Tales) and Boccaccio (Decameron) some time before I die too. Getting into current Star Trek books is a challenge too. Have bought a good number though.

Finished DS9 "Station Rage" by Diane Carey. It was pretty 'meh' but it wasn't that bad. The High Gul was an interesting character that I would have liked to see developed more, he's kind of like Dukat with a genuine sense of honor. A likeable villain. The plot allowed for a nice look at what Cardassia was like in the not-so-distant past and sets up a reasonable explanation for why they are the way they are as seen on TNG and DS9.

I'm on to TNG "Chains of Command" by W.C. McCay and E.L. Flood...seems to be another pretty standard episodic novel so far, nothing outstanding but an engaging, entertaining story. I'm fine with that.

Just wrote my review of Worlds of Deep Space Nine: Bajor: Fragments and Omens by J. Noah Kym. I really enjoyed this one, and I really connected with the character of Rena.

Currently finishing up Christopher L. Bennett's Rise of the Federation: Uncertain Logic, and loving it!
