I have to say "Thank You" to everyone on this thread. After binge watching ENT I figured I would give DS9 a chance. But I seriously could not get the on the first couple of episodes. So I switched to VOY. But somewhere in the middle of the series, I got frustrated with it, and ended up reading the synopses of all the episodes on Memory Alpha. And I would only watch the episode that sounded interesting enough after having read them.

Even though I am currently watching TOS, I think I may now switch over to DS9 as the original is not quite like I remembered it.

Just bear in mind that DSN really begins to hit it's stride from season three, Season two begins to drop a few hints. Unlike TOS/TNG/VOY/ENT S1-2. DSN from around S3 is a semi-serialised show. Many episodes are self-contained but the actions in the epiosdes can have consequences which might be picked upon in future episodes.

Duet is a great character piece for Kira, definitely one of my favourites!

I'm still stuck at season 4 for DS9 (haven't got the time to watch!) but (except for Jadzia and a few choice episodes) I actually enjoy the early seasons so far, they are definitely not nearly as bad as the early seasons of TNG. The first season finale was painful but oh well... I'm sure the writers thought they were edgy and original with "In the Hands of the Prophets"

It took me a bit to get into the first couple seasons of DS9, but Blood Oath is certainly a favorite of mine from that time. John Colicos really took Kor beyond his prior, ruthless self, and made that character from someone I loved to hate, to someone I'd love to hang out with and drink and listen to and share stories with. He kinda made Kor a "loveable lush", but still retained his warrior spirit when the call for vengeance made itself known. It was also a union of the Klingons Three (with Kang and Koloth).

Yes, DS9 really hit its stride with Season Three's opener, "Way of the Warrior". But even when the Defiant became part of the station's T.O.E. In Season Two, I got more interested.

Kilana, Far Beyond the Stars is probably my favorite "non-action" episode of the entire series, followed by "Little Green Men" and "Badda Bing, Badda Bang".

It's worth sticking with DS9. There are some growing pains, as with TNG, but it eventually grows into a complex and intricate saga full of fascinating characters.

And Sisko becomes a much more compelling character after he shaves his head--and the the writers get the hang of writing for Avery Brooks.

Like every post-TOS series, the first two seasons are pretty rough, but it is worth sticking around for the goodness that follows.

I like DS9 now.

In fact, I'm about 10 episodes into Season 2 in my Franchise Marathon. (I'm watching the entire Star Trek series and movies in chronological order).

But that was not the case when the series debut.

I remember watching Emissary and thinking it was quite dull, though I did enjoy the characters.

Today, when I watch Emissary, I see it as the best pilot of all the shows. Even better than, dare I say, Where No Man Has Gone Before (but about equal with The Cage, which I loved).

DS9 was an acquired taste for me.

But back in the day, (during high school and college), I used to prefer Voyager.

DS9 is worth another shot. There are many great episodes, and Sisko is not always the main character.
Far beyond the stars for instance: Sisko as black SciFi writer having difficulties to sell his stories. Many guest stars without prosthetics...... This episode explains, why Sisko is later skeptical about Vic´s 60ies Vegas where blacks still had to fight for their rights.

Or Treachery, Faith and the Great River: Weyoun had to deal with his defective self. Great interaction with Odo.

I guess, I mentioned it before, but I started to read the DS9 novels and the characters grew dear to my heart, so I bought the DVDs.

Deep Space Nine definitely had its moments. But it was never consistently interesting enough to hold my attention.
