I'm all Assassin's Creeded out. Completed Black Flag around Christmas, fired up AC3 a few weeks ago, and it's just become such a chore to play. I've had Rogue sitting idle in the packaging for four months now. Bayonetta 2 has caught my eye, though.
Made the leap and fired up Bayonetta last night. Thus far it's pretty good. Not a fan of the camera, but I haven't poked around to see if I can adjust the speed.
I just started playing Bioshock Infinite last night. It was a free download because I had the Gold trial through Microsoft. It's okay. I mean, the visuals are superb, and the atmosphere is wonderful. I was enjoying the beautiful scenery, the well done effort of bringing Columbia to life as well as the very nasty story behind her lovely facade, that lighthouse/stormy sea intro was fantastic, and steampunk is always awesome, but when the shooting and killing started, I lost interest. I want to see more of the game, but I don't want to keep doing the chest gouging with the thing, or the shooting with the guns.
Yeah, the game is really interesting, some fantastic world building but the killing animals are quite disturbing for no real reason. Or maybe it's all to do with the psychology of Booker in the end, either way it really want that necessary.
I don't really mind the (as you guys said, mostly gratuitious) brutal violence too much, the story and presentation just doesn't grab me in any profound way. As all Ken Levine games post SS2 and Thief/Dark Project, everything about it feels manufactured/contrived to me somehow (yes, I do realize that's an ironic choice of words for a fictional setting in a video game).
When I first walked from the sanctuary to the city proper, my jaw dropped. That first scene is just fantastic. I also love the steampunk elements. I mean, a floating city, dirigibles, gears and sprockets, it was all too much! I loved it! Then the blood started. *sigh* Oh, it's definitely stylized, but I see it in the same way I do the Coen Brothers. It's definitely manufactured, but it looks so good, and these are people who can usually apply a deft touch to their work, and so it just makes sense. Granted, I didn't get far enough into the game before the blood started, but what I saw was mesmerizing. To be honest, if it would have ended up being like, say, Myst but in a steampunk city like Columbia, I'd have probably plotzed!
^ It's diminishing returns of that particular style and brand of Ken Levine* world design for me, probably. After System Shock 2 and Thief, Bioshock's world design felt very safe, very predictable. Infinite put an interesting spin on it, but the underlying core is still very much Bioshock. *(I don't want to over-emphasize one guy's contribution, he's just my go-to label for the devs responsible for "his" games)
Then it might be simply that I'm unfamiliar with his work, having never played System Shock or Thief. This world was brand new for me.
That was supposed to read killing animations but autocorrect bit me. I liked BioShock Infinite but truth be told I never did think the BioShock games lived up to the hype surrounding them.
I am currently watching someone play "Candy Crush Soda Saga" I am going to poke my eyeballs out with a candy cane very soon. Someone please help...make it stop...
Played some Pokémon Shuffle last night. Might play some more today for the lols. Hoping to play some other games tonight.
Hee Hee, no offense meant at all! Actually, I have seen a couple of incarnations of that series (?) of games. To my Old Fossil Brain, the style and sound and look of the game mesmerizes me and gives me an negative edge. Nothing wrong at all, and I am sure there are those that would have issue with the old games I listed above. Apologies. Just a bad joke to all you Crushians (?) And yes, I already decided not to watch anymore! By the way, Happy (almost) Birthday!!!
Nah, no offense was taken. I knew you were joking, and I know those kinds of games are definitely not for everyone. Thanks! You wound me, sir.
I'm playing The Wolf Among Us, I like it but I've yet to come across this bug... [yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgbcG4G3bVw[/yt] Which has kinda ruined it.
