Too often when I'm talking to someone and I mention how I'm a fan of Star Trek they will say "Beam me up Scotty" and every time they say it a part of me dies. Because any TRUE fan knows that phrase was never actually spoken (similar lines were said but never THAT line) and that got me thinking...I wonder if I'm the only one who gets annoyed by non-trekkies saying things that are incorrect about Trek. So I ask you now, fellow trekkies have you ever had someone say something Trek related that was so wrong that you just wanted to slap them with a tribble, if so what did they say to upset you so much?

    "Star Track."

    "The show with Dr. Spock."

    :scream:

Those two, and their variants, have been the most common, and the most irritating. ;)

Oooo those are bad haha though thankfuLLY I have not experienced either. Though sometimes friends will jokingly push my buttons and say something like

"you like Star Trek right? May the force be with you, Spock says that right?"

or something else similar where they pretend confuse Star Trek and Star Wars

Self-professed Trek fans who even quote Trek sometimes, yet call Spock "Dr. Spock".

I think McCoy would have something to say about that.

Calling Spock "Dr. Spock" (I know he was, but...)

    "I remember Star Track"

    "Warp Overdrive"

    "Transferer"

    "They had those Lazer guns"

    "Is that show still on?"

Why would I get annoyed at someone attempting to make a connection with me on a topic they knew I had an interest in and getting details wrong?

You should see me talk sports, "hey how 'bout those.. sports"

You're in trouble if you're talking to an ice hockey fan if you say that. You might have made them mad.

its because they are doing it to specifically agitate someone or say things in a sarcastic manor.

You think people are saying "beam me up Scotty" specifically to agitate you? How can they not know this was never said in TOS and yet misquote to agitate you?

Nah, I do not thing is it agitation, it is just not knowing the show and the vernacular. My issue and upset is that I think EVERYONE should know and love and care for and embrace Star Trek with all of their hearts.

Or, at least know a phaser from a ray gun.

    Ha!

I think there's a difference between feeling something on the inside, and being rude on the outside. I interpreted the OP as asking about what I feel on the inside. I do feel irritated when hearing what I mentioned above. How I respond depends upon how people are trying to interact. If it's an effort to reach out, all is forgiven. You'd think people in my age bracket would be past saying things like, "Ew, you like Star Track," but sadly you'd be wrong.

"Remember when Luke & Spock fought the Sith on Organia?"
"Why, yes. That was a great episode."

Usually I engage them in conversation and continue down their wrong path. I know he meant Kirk and Klingons and I'll try to steer the conversation to the correct terms.
