The heroes would obliterate the villainess, but lose to a pure-energy form.

Bomp, bomp, bomp-bomp-bom-bomp,

PURE ENERGY.

I'll tell you what first freaked me out about the '78 film: the POSTER. I was 8 years old when it came out and it gave me the screaming heebie-jeebies. This was before I even knew what the damn thing was about...

Yes, I saw that on a plane and still felt ripped off. Time could have been better spent staring at the tops of clouds.

I rarely like any remakes better than the original, and this is no exception. But the 1978 one is really good, and comes very close.

Because PG-13 was six years away, you had borderline R-rated moments in this PG-rated film. And not for the first or last time.

Yeah, I was in elementary school and a few schoolmates had seen it. When I saw it later I was a little surprised, my parents would never have let me see something like that.

Just to be contrary, I'm going to go for The Body Snatcher with Boris Karloff, which is, of course, based on an entirely different story! :)

I wonder if people go up to Donald Sutherland in public and do the point-and-scream thing.

I couldn't say. But that's exactly what I had Veronica Cartwright do to me for a photo at last year's NostalgiaCon. She channeled Sutherland while I channelled Leslie Nielsen.

Leslie Nielsen...that I'd like to have seen.

"My name is Sergeant Frank Drebin, Detective Captain Lieutenant Inspector of Police Squad. There'd been a recent wave of gorgeous pod aliens lying naked and unconscious in laundromats on the West Side..."
