Terry Farrell and DS9 Season 7

I actually thought de Boer was more attractive than Farrell at the time, and I was 15. Although both were and are very pretty. I just was used to Jadzia and couldn't get into another character after 6 seasons and starting a new one. Had DS9 gone on for another season or two, I might have felt different.

^I would not be surprised if her absence had that effect: I found it disorienting myself. Without her, it was more difficult to bring levity into the darker stories. I wonder, though, how much of a draw she was for teenage boys. Dax--and Farrell--was classier than the usual eye candy. I also don't think that they did as much as they could to emphasize her physique. That huge field of black in both the DS9 and the FC uniforms could be sharp, but it de-emphasized a lot of curves (to the benefit of Brooks, but to the detriment of Farrell). Whenever I think of the sexy Dax, I think more of Past Tense than Let He Who Is Without Sin. Farrell knew how to wear clothes.

Well, evidently it was her job.

Funny enough, when I rewatched Past Tense last week I thought that Jadzia really came to life in that episode better than any other so far in my rewatch.

Now when it came to eye candy, Julian is the one I had a crush on :)

You mean to you, Jadzia was missing a candy cane.

She committed the sin of leaving a Star Trek series willingly; therefore, she must be put in her place, cf. the level of fan snideness directed at Denise Crosby.
I didn't blame Crosby for leaving the show when she did. Season One of TNG was horrid on many levels, and I recall reading somewhere, an old Starlog, IIRC, she did not feel the series would last past season two.

Farrell I didn't blame either. Sometimes a show needs a shake-up or two just to keep it interesting, and I thought Ezri-Dax a fine character.

I was sad to see farrell leave but her choice.
So what if she left on bad terms, fans moaning and hating her cos she dared to leave a show is utterly ridiculous

Faster some members come to terms with the fact the actress could do whatever she liked, and she did not owe the nfans anything the faster those hating her might get over it.

I didn't witness much hating. Disliking her acting abilities or lack thereof is different from hating, plus it's unlikely to change.

Uhura whines about her relationship with Spock, disrespects the captain, speaks shaky Klingon, and is saved by "Harrison."

I'm sure it unfolds differently for Dax (including handing Spock his ass on a plate).:p

[/nerdrant]

Big deal, that makes Uhura more relatable and real than how people have described Jadzia.
It may make NuUhura "relatable" (personally don't see it) but it doesn't make her likeable. Jadzia was a far warmer, more interesting and professional character than NuUhura can ever hope to be.

Well, Terry Farrell didn't land any important part since DS9, so that kinda speaks for itself.

If you read over the posts, you will see that most anger is directed at the producers and the writers for the firing and for making her return difficult by killing the character.

How many of the others did?

Alexander Siddig has had some good roles, Kingdom of Heaven, 24, lots of guest stuff. I think Colm Meaney still gets the odd bit of film and TV.

Most of the others have ended up back in stage work. None of the DS9 cast has become a massive star like Patrick Stewart, but then neither has anyone from the other modern shows.

Certainly, Terry Farrell hasn't done significantly worse than the others, plus she hit 30, which is death for most actresses as far as film and TV seem to be concerned.

Old men don't seem to have that problem, though.

Agism against actresses is hardly Terry Farrell's fault, though.

You mean they are trek cursed?

possibly yes

But that's terrible. If word gets around there won't be anymore actors to want to play in the trek series.

It's only been 50 years. Things could change.

Seriously, I don't think typecasting will be a problem for the current cast. They have done and are continuing to do other projects outside Trek. Their careers will continue when this iteration of Star Trek is done.

I predict Benedict Cumberbatch will star as Kunta Kinte in a big screen remake of Roots. :guffaw:
