Terry Farrell and DS9 Season 7

Is this thread a Terry Farrell bashfest??? I'm shocked at the mean and horrid sentiments the posters are writing. As if some ACTUALLY knew her personally and she hurt these idiots in some way. I'm wondering can some of the adolescent minds write anything constructive.

Pfft whatevs. You haven't met any of us in person either yet your calling us idiots. Pot. Cattle. Black.

I for one have not said anything about Terry Farrel as a person, she might be a wonderful caring individual or an absolute b*tch. I have no idea and likely I never will what with her and me living on different continents.

All I said was that she wasn't a stellar actress in DS9 especially when it came to very emotional scenes.

amazing how negative comments about members are frowned upon but its ok to deride a star in a show that most people probably never met or dislike based on a whim

Insulting posters is forbidden which is a bit more than just "frowned upon". You'd better get used to it quick, if you want your stay here to be lasting and fruitful.

Yes. If STEPHon It wants to talk about the posts, he is welcome to criticize what has been written. Making blanket statements about posters is another matter.

Where have I insulted anyone ?
Seems to me you are the one being aggressive to the simple observation I made.
I've tried to warn you but you've already called people here "idiots" and it's on record. Now if you think that you can wiggle out of it by making random baseless accusations, good luck!

I don't think everyone will be as forgiving as I am by not signalling your transgression, so I would keep a low profile from now on if I were you.

I've tried to tell him that but he won't believe me.

You are confused, go back and re read the posts, you are mistaking my posts with another members.

Yes, It would seem that I did make that mistake. I apologize for that. My opinion still stands though although it applies to the one who actually said these things and also to people who may be tempted to follow his example.

Some people just aren't that good at their jobs. I'd rather she played a disappointing Star Trek role than pay for her welfare checks.

There's nothing wrong with welfare, or even better, the idea of a guaranteed annual income, as aptly defended here. And it would keep people not good at a job away from the workforce while they find time to be good at something that they could do as a job.

We shouldn't make the mistake of placing our desire to see people who don't follow our paths punished, above the collective good of society. Unfortunately, the people who do make that mistake are legions.

^I don't mean that to be punitive, just that a person who has problems fitting into society for whatever reason has an annual income that can keep them fed, clothed, housed, and warm while they manage to get over what issues is keeping them for being able to found a job or get a career. Clearly, judging from what others have said, maybe Farrell needed something like this, as we all do sometimes in our lives (it also has the added measure of keeping people from being homeless.)

I wasn't thinking about what you said. I am sorry I didn't make that clearer.

However we variously interpret the need for social services in human societies, I doubt that Farrell's choices were between swallowing her pride or going on welfare. By all indications, she would have had steady work had she not been cast as Dax, and Berman himself felt lucky to have landed her.

Exactly, she was, after all a fashion model as well as an actress. She is a very attractive woman and as the mirror universe showed there are character types she has greater ease in portraying. She would not have been reduced to going on welfare.
It's clear why Berman was happy having her on the show; her looks lured in their target audience (teenaged boys) and if I remember correctly I have read once that the ratings for season 7 plunged somewhat because with Jadzia/Farrel they had lost their (conventionally) attractive series' babe.

^I would not be surprised if her absence had that effect: I found it disorienting myself. Without her, it was more difficult to bring levity into the darker stories. I wonder, though, how much of a draw she was for teenage boys. Dax--and Farrell--was classier than the usual eye candy. I also don't think that they did as much as they could to emphasize her physique. That huge field of black in both the DS9 and the FC uniforms could be sharp, but it de-emphasized a lot of curves (to the benefit of Brooks, but to the detriment of Farrell). Whenever I think of the sexy Dax, I think more of Past Tense than Let He Who Is Without Sin. Farrell knew how to wear clothes.

it was not just teenage boys that found her attractive, older lads did as well.

And some gals of all ages as well I image! ;)

I just pointed out the teenage boys because that was the main target audience sci fi aimed for in those days, wasn't it?

Nana Visitor is very attractive as well, but Kira was very masculine which might have made her less attractive to the target audience (and note that her looks were more feminized in season 7) and while Nicole de Boer was also very attractive, her haircut and the uniform made her appear very young/boyish (at least that's how I saw it as a teen) ergo also less attractive.

I would have been completely fine if after killing off Jadzia, they never introduced Ezri. I think it would have been better if they simply killed the Dax character off, and not replaced it. There were enough cast members, regular and recurring, to have easily filled the void the Dax character left.

Agreed.

She committed the sin of leaving a Star Trek series willingly; therefore, she must be put in her place, cf. the level of fan snideness directed at Denise Crosby.

Uhura whines about her relationship with Spock, disrepects the captain, speaks shaky Klingon, and is saved by "Harrison."

I'm sure it unfolds differently for Dax (including handing Spock his ass on a plate).:p

For what it's worth, in my area at the time of season 7 it was dropped by the local networks and I never had a chance to watch it until it came out on DVD! I wonder if the number of networks carrying DS9 played a role in the ratings? The whole Atlanta area wasn't able to watch it, that's millions of potential viewers right there.

Well, evidently it was her job.

Big deal, that makes Uhura more relatable and real than how people have described Jadzia.
