Star Wars Rebels Season One (spoilers)

Wow that was just all kinds of action packed. I'd have to rate that finale as right up there with the best of the films. Probably the first time I've actually felt like squee'ing. Well done guys.

Random I hope not too spoilery thoughts:

* From the opening, I really wish Sabine would stop taunting the Stormtroopers like that. There's always a chance one of them might get in a lucky shot.

* "There are some things more frightening than death." ???

* I wonder whose voices those were Ezra was hearing as he was waking up. Remembering all the times the crew called his name? Or the voices of dead Jedi?

* Speaking of Jedi, you gotta give them props. You can torture one for days and they'll still bounce back and kick your ass. :)

* And did we just see one of the reasons Tarkin has such a hard time
abandoning ship? :)

I can't have been the only person to think of Family Guy's "Blue Harvest":

But overall, very enjoyable! Definitely kept me engaged the whole time.

So where does the crew of the Ghost go from here? I'd imagine it would be difficult to go back to Lothal (but certainly not impossible).

From the dialogue with Tarkin towards the end, I think we'll be seeing more of Lothan. Specifically how Tarkin intends to show that the Empire is far from "weak".

That said, I'm sure the Spectres will be getting out into the galaxy a bit more. Indeed they may not have a choice. Knowing his M.O., I wouldn't be at all surprised if Tarkin ends up scourging the whole planet to set an example.

Stormtroopers? Actually hitting something they shoot at? :wtf:

Like Darth, I'm assuming.

No, they were the voices of the crew. I definitely heard Kanan's voice as the main one.

This finale absolutely blew me away, WOW! I can't believe I couldn't recognize Hera's voice in the previews, d'oh. I'm glad that Fulcrum did turn out to be Ahsoka. The lightsaber duels were awesome and I too am surprised that the inquisitor died. I wonder if there's another inquisitor out there? Seeing Vader was great, but I was really hoping we'd hear him speak. I can't imagine how season two will play out, but I can't wait to find out.

Great stuff. So James Earl Jones is up for continued voice work, or will they use an alternative?

Well from the sound of it Vader will still be used sparingly, so I'm sure it will still be Jones voicing him.

Most likely Vader will be simply overseeing things from above, and will send various bounty hunters, admirals, or new Inquisitors to do all the dirty work of actually hunting down the rebels.

I was pretty sure it was Hera, but not sure enough to be comfortable saying so. The line "The ship you stole" threw me, since it suggested that someone outside the crew was speaking.

This was really, really fun. I cheered when Fulcrum was revealed, and I loved the action, saber and ship based.

Where do we go from here? I don't think Lothal is about to fade away, but now that other cells are confirmed to our heroes, we can open up the galaxy a little more and start to see how rebels elsewhere are doing.

I'd say the game plan is for the rebellion to slowly build from here, and then be dealt a crushing blow that will ultimately set up how they appear in ANH. Whether any of our heroes, Ahsoka included, survive to that point will likely be part of the overall arc. I strongly suspect that Ahsoka will meet her end at Vader's hand, possibly as soon as the next season finale, to really up the ante for our core cast.

"Darth Vader. Only you would be so bold"

Maybe we will see why Senator Leia Organa has that opinion of Lord Vader.

* "There are some things more frightening than death." ???

^I'm assuming he was referring to his boss. Or at least, facing him after having failed so completely.

I do believe they are referring to the process of Grevious-ing or Vader-ing someone into a mechanical Frankenstein. In other words, Star Wars characters are rarely completely dead. :D I do not believe for a moment that Inky is dead to us. He'll come back in some spidery exo-suit with disco ball sabres.

Had a thought on
Ahsoka's new look: my reaction to Ahsoka's updated adult look (she should be thirty) was that the size and shape of her eyes suggested to me that maybe Star Wars is grooming us to accept Ashley Eckstein (sp?) as she plays a live action version of Ahsoka in spinoff films or perhaps even the Sequel Trilogy?

Just a thought. We had a thread years ago imagining who would play Ahsoka in a live action version. Ashley is the obvious top choice... if so, brilliant. I think many of us want to see Ashley as Ahsoka in the flesh someday.

Ahsoka's appearance really moved me. I was expecting the reveal but wasn't expecting the weight of the scene. It's kind of a bummer when she leaves the Jedi Order in TCW and a sad way for her story to end there.

Do we need to continue the spoiler tags for Fulcrum/Ahsoka? It's all over the internets this morning.

Awesome first season. Although I do have some minor quibbles, one very happy Star Wars nerd here. I'm just hoping they won't make us wait until October for season two. We know that the second season premiere will be shown at Star Wars Celebration. That's mid-April.

Going ahead with de-spoiler-boxing:

Maybe; I was reminded of Eckstein's own face. Although it could just be that child characters in cartoons are often given exaggeratedly large eyes to suggest youth -- note how in Avatar: The Last Airbender (another series Dave Filoni worked on), Aang had larger eyes than the older characters, but his adult self in The Legend of Korra had more normal-sized eyes.

But the idea of giving Ahsoka her own live-action feature-film focus story is awesome. Star Wars has always been a little lacking in female representation. Leia was one of the seminal female action heroes, but she was practically the only woman in the whole damn trilogy. Padme was an attempt to fill Leia's shoes, but ended up being rather marginalized and came to a bad end (bad in the quality sense, in that it was stupid). And Hera and Sabine are both really cool characters who've only gotten one episode focusing on them in the whole season. I suspect part of why Ahsoka's caught on so powerfully is because she fills a need that no character since Leia has filled so well, a really effective female action protagonist. It sounds like she'll only have a recurring role in Rebels, so giving Ahsoka her own feature film would be fantastic. Of course, I doubt it'll happen, but it's a lovely idea.

Watch this video to see Ashley Eckstein wearing an "Ahsoka Lives!" t-shirt. Also, a discussion about Ahsoka's new look.

Fairly certain a trip to Dantooine is in the near future.

Small point, but did anyone else get the impression that Chopper already knew Ahsoka? I might even go so far as to suppose he's actually Ahsoka's droid. It would certainly explain how he knew to contact her.

According to the behind the scenes video, Ahsoka got her new armour from some ancient hidden Jedi temple like the one on Lothal. I kind of like the idea that she also found Chopper there. A thousands years on his own with no memory wipes would certainly explain his "unique" personality.

The little behind the scenes sketches for next season show A-wings as well as some sort of Corellian carrier concept (an enlarged Corvette looking ship that can hold some A-wings). No X-wings yet. No evidence of Y-wings, though those are old and I wouldn't put it past some of the old Clone Wars veterans to be able to acquire them from the Rebellion.

The Ghost is definately going to be going places next season. First step into a larger world.

It's not the size so much as the proportions. As in the size of the eyes relative to the face and the size of the head in relation to the body. It's a pretty common convention in animated character design. You see it taken to an extreme in some anime (which is actually related to Disney's style by way of Osamu Tezuka.)

Live action Star Wars maybe, but TCW did a pretty good job on that front and not just with Ahsoka. I could probably name about half a dozen prominent female Jedi just off the top of my head and then there's the likes of Satine, Ventress, Bo-Katan, Aurra Sing, Sugi etc. Plus they did a much better job with Padme than the movies ever managed.

All SWR really needs right now is a good female antagonist. If only there were such a character that could fill the role left vacant by the Inquisitor...maybe someone with red hair? ;)

Bloody nepotism!
Hmm...actually...think she could play a red head? :D

P.S. I love that they're using the original blue A-Wing design.
