Star Wars Rebels Season One (spoilers)

He could be Force Ghostin' it for Season Two.

But in all seriousness, this is still a kid's show. They're not going to kill off the second most important character in the show.

Who mentioned killing off Chopper? Oh, wait, you said second most important character. Wait, that's Ezra.

That's sort of what's bothering me. They're certainly intimating that someone's going to buy it and I can't see them killing off Ezra, Kanan or indeed any of the Ghost cell. Zeb's probably the closest thing they have to a disposable character, but I can't see it being him.

There's always the possibility that it's Fulcrum that's going out, which would almost certainly require them to be Ahsoka...and that would really suck.

As much as I've enjoyed watching the episodes a week early On Demand, I'm glad that we're all going to get the finale at the same time.

I haven't checked the actual content on my DVR but Cogeco in Ontario with Disney XD had the season final on yesterday morning.

Need to check that nothing is on for Sunday evening when they could normall air the new eps (but the DVR is from the cable company and set to record new eps) so maybe some-one screwed up.

Liking that we'll see some early Rebel Alliance fleet action in the finale. Three CR90s, a captured Gozanti cruiser, and the Ghost. Looks like they manage to down one of the Star Destroyers (whether by firepower or whatever that captured TIE fighter will do). This should be fun for the space battle nerds, considering we didn't get ALL THAT much of it in Clone Wars despite big starships being seen in the background all the time. :)

Hey, folks were just talking above about how nice it'd be for everyone to get to watch and comment on the episode at the same time for a change, but nobody's posted yet? Okay, I guess I'll spoiler-code it.

This wasn't quite on the level of The Clone Wars at its best, but it was pretty effective. The lightsaber battle between Kanan and the Inquisitor was very cleverly choreographed, with some really imaginative moves and tactics. Ezra's saber/gun added a fresh dynamic, and Kanan's final move with Inqie's hoop saber was inspired.

Still not crazy about the bouncy character animation. It was distracting seeing the Inquisitor move around so much while interrogating Kanan. A character like him should've had more of a still, reserved body language. It was so distracting that I almost missed the revelations about Kanan's backstory.

I liked Sabine's painted TIE fighter, though. Nice touch.

And I guess Inqie was just the warmup act. Now Vader's the bad guy. And now the Ghost crew is in touch with the larger Rebellion. The pieces are starting to fall into place.

You know, I'd all but convinced myself I was right that Fulcrum would turn out to be Ezra's mother. So I was genuinely a bit surprised when it turned out to be Ahsoka after all. And I'm glad to see her all grown up (though why is her speech pattern so much more stilted now?), but I'm honestly a bit disappointed that it was exactly who everyone expected it to be -- and that it's someone who only has significance to the audience and not to the established characters. Yet at the same time I'm very glad that Ahsoka's story will continue to be developed. Although I don't know if Rebels will explore it as deeply as TCW could have, because she's only a supporting character here, and because the show's storytelling is often kind of cursory. I wish they'd wrapped up the action portion a minute or two earlier so we could've spent more time with Ahsoka and Bail.

Excellent, amazing season finale! I really felt a palpable sense of dread in this episode as they were ridiculously outmatched and outclassed throughout. Though that threat was greatly lessened by the fact that the Stormtroopers and TIE Fighters were utterly incapable of shooting people RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM. *sigh*

The Duel of the Fates "homage" was very cool, though I did find it a tad ridiculous that a freshly tortured Kanan could beat the Inquisitor. Still, great fight. And the Rebel "fleet" showing up to save their bacon was a great cheering moment.

But oh man. When I saw Ahsoka climb down that ladder, I completely geeked out. Yes, I was 80% convinced it was going to be her. But it was still a joyous moment. I really, really hope she plays a large role in the rest of the series, even being a series regular.

I was surprised that the Inquisitor died. I really expected him to appear through the whole series. I kinda expected Chopper to sacrifice himself to let them get away; we had just been introduced to his potential replacement in the previous episode and that would have sold more toys.

Vader showing up was not a surprise as that was thoroughly spoiled everywhere. I can't see him being the regular villain though, he's too important to bother with this back world stuff. Not to mention the fact that they could never, ever, ever beat him.

I can only imagine this story is going to end with Vader killing Ahsoka...

I just realized a huge complaint. They make a big deal of going to Mustafar... where Jedi go to die... AND THEY DON'T GO TO MUSTAFAR. They just went to a ship in orbit. We didn't see the damn planet! What was the point?!

...now I want a confrontation between Vader and Ahsoka if only to hear James Earl Jones condescendingly call her "Snips."

Wow, that finale was just all kinds of awesome.

I was never a major TCW fan, but I have to admit I geeked out a bit as well watching Ahsoka come down those stairs. And I really hope we get to see her interacting with the crew more in the future.

And wow, the composer really outdid himself on the score for this episode. The music throughout might have been more thrilling and epic than any score I've heard in a TV cartoon before.

And like others, I'm surprised to see them off the Inquisitor so soon. Obviously Vader is a MUCH more compelling and frightening villain (and I'm still really loving the redesign they gave him), but it still seems like they need someone a bit more on the level of the rebels to be the continuing villain.

I have a nasty feeling that she'll end up going out writhing in agony by way of force lightning. The temptation to retroactively foreshadow and resonate with the scene from RotJ may be too much to pass up, particularly if it means Vader's redemption had as much to do with Ahsoka as it did Luke.

On the positive side, it means we may yet get Ahsoka as Leia's nanny/bodyguard in the interim.

Great stuff. So James Earl Jones is up for continued voice work, or will they use an alternative?

USA Today spoiler article on the Finale Reveal and Season Two:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/...bels-season-finale-reveal-exclusive/24245601/

When Clone Wars ended last year, Filoni still had 12 episodes of stories that explored Ahsoka's history and what happened to her after leaving the Jedi order when she was around age 16 — many of them were worked on with George Lucas while he was still heavily involved in the Star Wars universe.

There was a timeline set up for her all the way up to "Order 66," the Emperor's command to wipe out all the Jedi in 2005's Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith movie. In crafting her appearance in Rebels, which takes place 14 years after the last prequel film and five years before the original 1977 Star Wars, executive producer Greg Weisman had an idea for her as a go-between in the nascent years of the Rebel Alliance for missions to undermine the Empire.

Ahsoka will definitely play a significant role in the upcoming second season (the series is expected to return later this year) of Rebels and going forward. "But it's not like she's going to have a bunk on the Ghost anytime soon," Filoni says. "She needs to remain kind of a mysterious figure who is woven in and out of the story."
