Which is your favorite love interest for Troi?

I've wondered before how the fandom really splits up over Troi's love interests. The big two are Will and Worf, but to add to the fun I'll include options for Tom and "other".
I enjoyed all her relationships but I am fairly obsessed with her relationship with Will. I like their history (wonderfully expanded on by Peter David's Imzadi novel), their friendship, and their chemistry. Even I have to admit I at times get frustrated at how Will chooses to put her on the backburner for his career (and then doesn't pursue his career with the same ambition later anyways) or just to play the field. I did support Tom and Troi when he was introduced, and at that time would've been glad if it worked out, but it didn't. In the end though Will had a richer history with Troi because of their years together as friends and at least they did wind up together in the end.
So which one is your favorite?

Also, the poll allows for multiple votes in case anyone likes two or more options equally. I could at least see Tom and Will being equally popular choices for someone for example.

Will and Deanna felt a little like Ken and Barbie to me in the sense that they were two good looking people who looked great in shots together, but ultimately were a little too perfect. I thought Deanna and Worf had much better chemistry. Deanna would have also been a good mother to Alexander.

I did really like Troi's relationship with Alexander - she was a great mother figure to him. I loved the whole family dynamic of Lwaxana/Troi/Worf/Alexander. Lwaxana was great with Alexander too, and already was giving a preview of the mother in law from Hell to Worf. I would've loved to have seen more of Alexander but he got sidelined in DS9 and when he did show up he was pretty different than I'd have liked. As far as I know not much has been done with Alexander in the books - he may show up in books I haven't read yet - but I'd have loved to see Troi continue to play a role as Alexander's godmother and mother figure.
It is very odd to me how Troi and Worf's relationship - and Troi and Will for that matter - were completely ignored in Generations, and then Worf was single in DS9 without the break up addressed on screen. Imzadi II deals with that, continuing the tradition of some of Troi's best story moments happening in the novels.
I still prefer Troi and Riker though, I think their chemistry was great even if Will's choices were less than romantic.

Picard & Beverly have a good reason to let their relationship be on hold for a long time.. so I can buy that. But Will & Troi have no reason not to be dating if they were attracted to eachother.

So yeah my real answer is Worf. Will Riker as had better chemistry with other guest ladies than Troi in my opinion. Like the lady that the crystalline entity vaporized, and the other lady that Riker himself vaporized. Oh...

Riker is my favourite love interest for Troi. But I voted "Other."

Until Troi told him in INSURRECTION that she hadn't kissed him with a beard before (which I'm not all that certain about, actually), I was very under the impression that they were Friend with Benefits. Yes, they were "Imzadi" whatever the balls that meant. Actually, what it seemed to mean was that every third girlfriend or so, Riker had to "check in" with Deanna to see how she felt about it, out of a clear blue sky. His other conquests were taken under the radar, I guess, I don't know what. But he could always hedge his bet on his hot brunette Imzadi, if things didn't work out with his woman of the hour. Or so I believed, as I mentioned.

Therefore, I actually voted OTHER, because I happen to like Wyatt, who was her husband in an arranged marriage that never materialised, as per the episode HAVEN. He wasn't as, I don't know, Manly, I guess, as Riker, but ... he had an unpredictability about him, underneath his Nice Guy persona and I'm sure there was more than met the eye, with him. Deanna was definitely attracted to him and seemed to want the wedding, when he callously left her for some blue-eyed blonde with her midrift showing knowing that she had an incurable STD. But ... hey ... there's that unpredictability, again! He may seem timid, but he's not entirely tame.

I recall Troi sharing a kiss or two with Will with a beard, but they were chaste kisses. I assumed she meant they hadn't had more intimate kisses.
For what it's worth, they do get it on in the Imzadi novel set around season 5 I think.
The line should've been cut for continuity. At the very least it's more fun to leave it open about their private life.
I didn't feel there was any passion with Wyatt, but they made good friends.

I can't remember Worf's relationship with Troi at all, even though I've seen Season 7.

The movies did address it, but only in deleted scenes: in Insurrection there was originally a moment near the end where Will has a heart-to-heart with Worf about whether he and Deanna should get back together (in which Worf effectively gives them his blessing); whereas in Nemesis, there was a line during the scene where Worf is dreading the upcoming 'naked wedding' ceremony on Betazed, and Deanna coyly reminds him "There's nothing to be ashamed of, Worf. Besides... *I've* already seen it."

(Yes, the second one is just a dick joke. But at least it acknowledged there was once a thing between them.)

I agree that in no case do we ever actually see the break-up, in fact one can almost assume that maybe Worf was still seeing her when he arrived at DS9 and the break-up happened later, but nevertheless both the scripts of Insurrection and Nemesis at least had moments alluding to the Worf/Troi romance. It wasn't exactly 'ignored'... it just kept ending up on the cutting room floor.

I agree. They had some great moments together. They looked good together and I think they seemed to have an "understanding".

I voted for Tom Riker. I voted for him because I like the idea that on the face of it he was what Will Riker used to be, and I like the romance of that. I also like the idea that he is still Will Riker and would hurt her. I like the tragedy of that, if she were to risk it and chose him again. I also like the idea that he is broken and she would probably try to save him. It's all messed up, and I like that - I'm not a hearts and flowers gal.

Riker and Troi did kiss while he had the beard. We see 'em snogging in Violations (admittedly in a flashback), in Man of the People (where admittedly she was out of her head) and in Second Chances (with Tom Riker on the rec deck) and Menage a Trois on their romantic shore leave. And then there's a whole slew (probably) of less passionate kisses (The Child, Man of the People, The Outcast - it's not like I'm counting).

Will Riker. I always saw great chemistry between those two, even - or perhaps especially obvious - when they weren't together. They always had that special relationship, most visible in "Conundrum".

Worf and Deanna? I can't imagine many worse mismatches than those two.

I was really hoping for more to come from the Troi/Warf Relationship. I really liked the idea when it was first introduced. But I liked the Riker finally. I would have been just as happy with Tom, but Will made the most sense.

The history, the feelings, the trust, it all worked out, with the baku planet spark.

Well, Deanna would probably not have been in for anything as rough-and-tumble as what I'm assuming a Trill that has seen/experienced everything would be; bed/other furniture versus holographic cave floor surrounded by holographic corpses they hacked apart.


I chose Will Riker btw. There was something to their history being so connected that it felt right to me that when Riker finally "grows up" and moves out of Picard's basement, he marries his "childhood" sweet heart.
