My Gripes with STID!

Damn, are we back on that?

I don't have the energy. You take the ship. It's probably just a downed transmitter.

Just joking with you, mate. (But yeah, I don't have much more to say on that topic that I haven't already said. What I really mean is "agree to disagree.")

For me, the most striking difference between CumbyKhan and MontyKhan is the former's intelligence isn't just pretense.

What, out having a life? Meeting people? Doing things?!!!!

Clearly you are Not Of The Body. :shifty:

(SRSLY, it's no big. Just thought you might like to know that that's what this thread has basically been about for a while. :))

Does it help if I say I thought this thread was titled "My Grips with STID"?

Whenever I see STID, it reminds me of the acronym STD.

There are so many good alternative titles.

My Grippes with STID (wherein all the problems make me cough my lungs out)
My Crepes with STID (wherein I serve a nice brekkie for Crumblybatch and the NuTrek crew)
My Gropes with STID (all Alice Eve, all the time)
My Grypes with STID (wherein hungry griffins attack J.J. Abrams and tear him to shreds)
My Grifes with STID (wherein the primary villain of the piece is replaced by Roxxas from the Legion of Super-Heroes)

The possibilities are endless, really.

:guffaw:

I'm such a geek for relating that to a post several pages back.

One of the most pleasing things about STID was how clearly familiar with not only TWOK but also "Space Seed" the writers were - the portrayal of Khan's essential character was consistent with both, and spot on. :)

I am not sure.

I am.

From little things like the fact that he familiarizes himself with every detail of his enemies' vessels so that he can overcome any defenses right up to the fact that when his victory is frustrated he always goes a little nuts and is willing to destroy his adversaries at the likely cost of his own life.

In STID, he came up against a young and inexperienced Kirk too cocky and egotistical for the captain's chair

Which would have worked if he wasn't basically acting like the James T. Kirk we all know and love, who does things like...

stand at ground zero for a bomb that can strip a planet of its atmosphere to lure a vampire gas monster to its doom and beaming out right after setting it off, flying a starship turned big ass H-bomb into a planet killer, getting miffed about be left out of a plan to basically kidnap his predecessor and risk the federation's only death penalty to give the guy a normal life, ordering planets to be glassed for basically dragging him and his crew into their extremely idiotic war, running into other people's space after seeing their "stay the fuck out sign", a history of all but flipping off federation officials, and ect.

Not to mention the whole losing his ship for saving a pre-warp civilization (yeah, the Pike's office scene pretty much said that was the reason), or the fact that I still don't know just how the fuck being more experienced would have helped seeing as the only other options were basically go along with Marcus's plan.

So really that was my issue with the movie, that along with the going with TNG's Starfleet is not a military bullshit.

Leaving aside the ethnic origin (Sikh as said in space seed) there's also the fact that Khan was obviously a babe magnet. Plus the Khan from space seed was too proud to let himself hit in the face by Kirk without smashing his head. Add to that an endless list of minor details that together scream that this is a very different person.
