The Wall Street Journal is reporting they heard from a source that Spidey will indeed appear in Civil War. Newsarama article. I know that was what most people have been assuming, but it's still nice to have unofficial confirmation.

Maybe he'll have a cameo sooner than that. It's probably too late for a post-credits tease in Age of Ultron, but there's time for Ant-Man.

I'm not so sure. It wouldn't be that hard to do a 'Howard The Duck' and have a post credits scene about another character (as is probably already 'in the can') which pulls back to reveal a well loved character watching from half way up the wall, who turns and looks directly into the camera. Fade to black.

Cue audience jumping up cheering and applauding...

And with Spider-Man you don't necessarily even need to have an actor cast. Just have a CG version swinging through New York. Though what I'm really hoping for the reveal of the new actor is to have him show up in the final issue of the Spider-Verse series.

Quite unlikely as I'm sure Slott already has the last issue written, as it comes out real soon.

I'm glad Garfield is gone. Plans for the Sinister 6 movie should just die as that film was rooted in TASM2, all ties, chopped up burned, ground and ashes spread to the wind. Done.
Throw in a stake through the heart and I'll second this.

If they're going a "light reboot" / "implied continuity" direction, I think they'd be more likely to indirectly reference elements from the Raimi films, which more people saw and liked.

They may end up doing it similar to how they handled Bruce Banner in The Avengers. "Yeah, I'm the Hulk, I've been in other movies, let's just roll with it."

If Spider-Man's appearance in Civil War is much more than a cameo, then maybe it'll be something like the comic book version - in which case we're probably looking at our hyphenated hero as an established superhero, in his thirties or late twenties. Garfield or Maguire could fit in nicely. (In the former's case, his origin could be retconned into being a few years before Iron Man and the Hulk showed up.)

Yeah! Maybe Andrew Garfield Spider-Man hung up his suit in his grief after Gwen's death and let it sit because Iron Man then emerged. After all, Garfield is 31 right now, but The Amazing Spider-Man 2 took place not long after Peter and Gwen's high school graduation.

Both of who are 23 just to point out.

But yeah I know this is Hollywood and I suppose it's closer to "a teenager" than 31 year old Garfield.

If it is a total reboot, what would you call the 2017 movie? This years FF reboot seems to just be using "Fantastic Four" again like the 2005 movie. But for the 2012 Spidey reboot they added "The Amazing..." to it to at least differentiate it from the 2002 movie.

I suppose "Marvel's Spider-Man" is a possibility. Spectacular Spider-Man? Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man? Bit of a mouthful :)

Well if we get Spider-Man in Civil War first, that kind of negates them doing an origin don't you think?

I can't imagine everyone being introduced to this "new" Spider-Man and all of a sudden in the next movie getting his origin (again).

I could see them pulling an "Incredible Hulk" and running through it in the opening credits. But really, by this point you think anyone interested in going to see a Spider-Man movie is going to know his origin story.

Obviously if they go a younger Spider-Man in Civil War then his role will be vastly different than in the comic book vision for various reasons. Still hope we can have an older Peter in the movies and a Miles Morales in the TV/Netflix shows just so everyone could have their cake and eat it too.
