DS9's Bajoran name

Although it seamed that the Federation moved in the same day as the Cardassians left, it makes me wonder if the Bajorans ever gave the former Terok Nor a new, Bajoran name, before the station was designated as DS9? :cardie:

If the Bajorans ever had their own name for the station, we were never told what it was. It was rare enough that we even heard the native Bajoran language at all...

I think this is an interesting question. I did a little a searching, and found that Auschwitz was referred to by everyone as Auschwitz. Terok Nor is an analogy for the Holocaust-era concentration camp.

It wasn't referred to as Deep Space Nine until the Federation took over, and Kira refers to the station as Deep Space Nine. I would assume that the Bajorans called it 'Terok Nor' while it was run by the Cardassians.

It probably had other less-polite designations as well I would think 'Kosst'-something, but I have heard definitions of 'Kosst' as a noun, 'devil or demon', to a verb 'to be'.

Probably something that could be translated to 'Hell'.

That's an interesting question, but it doesn't seem like there was ever time for the station to get a Bajoran name. It seems very likely they would've called it Terok Nor until it was renamed Deep Space 9. Names have a way of sticking.

Terok Nor it is then.

But on the other hand, what shall the station (or the one in it's place) be called in the future?
They can not keep calling it DEEP SPACE 9 once Bajor joins the Federation, will it be Starbase 5432?

Bajorans on the surface often just called the place "the space station" even after the Federation stepped in and named it. The designation sounded like an insult whenever voiced... It would seem Bajorans simply considered the place beneath naming.

No Bajoran onscreen called the place Terok Nor, AFAIK. Although those interacting with the Cardassian occupiers no doubt frequently had to, offscreen...

I think it's possible that they keep the name Deep Space Nine.

It's an established name and a change will only complicate things since people will continue to call it Deep Space Nine anyway.

Our current space station is the International Space Station. I don't think being generic reflects a lack of affection.

Didn't they name it that became some countries involved objected to using the word 'Freedom'? ;)

More like when the US contribution suddenly diminished, and the Europeans halved the size of theirs, it turned out all they could spell on the remaining modules was "Space Station Fred".

Seriously, the station went through so many design changes that reusing an older name, no matter how cool, would have been severely misleading.

^...except wasn't it the wormhole itself (not the station) that was referred to as the "gate to the celestial temple?"

Also it wasn't officially discovered until after the Federation took over the station. Also before they moved it out of Bajor's orbit. The Bajorans would have their own things to call it long before that.
