DeForest Kelley and 'Shore Leave'

Dale Sams

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
A rather minor observation but...remember when Sulu starts firing the revolver and Kirk, McCoy and the yeoman start booking it?

Kelley is 46 or 47 in that episode. *I* sure couldn't have kept up with Shatner in that scene at that age. I would have pulled every muscle in my legs trying.

Emily Banks said in an interview somewhere that she remembers running over and over again to shoot that scene, and it was exhausting.

Kelley was 46, a year old than I am presently. He must have been in good shape.

Of course, he didn't have the cerebral palsy I do, but still....

I'm still capable of short spurts (no Viagra jokes, please!), but doing multiple takes would be beyond me, even when I was 46.

I've been using a cane since a broken knee at 39, so I know I couldn't run that fast at 46. Those guys were probably jogging every week to keep fit anyway.

Wow, I never thought of myself as old, and I'm 47.

I can run several miles (though I usually stick to one for workouts), swim several miles (again, I stick to one for workouts), and every day I do three sets of 25 dips, three sets of 15 pullups and three sets of 40 pushups. I may not be as fast as I was when I was 20... but back then I was running the 110m high hurdles in 14.2 seconds, the 100m in 10.6 seconds and the 200m in 22.4 seconds. Plus I weigh a lot more now than I did then (215 now compared to 185 back then).

I don't know about other people, but getting older hasn't really effected me.

... Okay, hasn't effected me much... I started losing my hair shortly after I turned 40. Oh well, my wife is stuck with me now. :p

This is where I don't mention I'm turning 35 and for a completely different reason. And given enough time between takes, I'd probably be able to keep up.

+1 on your S.F. avatar. And I'm middle-aged and have been fortunate to stay in shape. I've lost at most a step on what I could run in my 20s. Plus Shatner was short and a little thick around the middle. Kelley was skinny and probably very fast with his light frame.

Here ya go - from a Mannix episode a few years later:

:adore:

^Are you sure that's Emily Banks? it looks nothing like her.

Unless she was just having a REALLY bad day.
