These are matters that only Alicia Masters should think about....

I'm not tired of them, but I do think that style works better for some superheroes more than others.

I could certainly see the appeal in the idea of an edgier, more real world Superman movie, for instance, since he has often been portrayed in the comics as a fairly serious character. But when it comes to Spider-Man or the Fantastic Four, I just don't think an edgy and serious approach fits nearly as well.

Agreed. That teaser really piqued this non-fan's interest.

I really like the more realistic tone of ASM1, and I'm far from the only one. Heck, one of my main frustrations with ASM2 is that it wasn't enough like ASM1.

Well... he is called "The Thing", so he has to have some reason to justify his nickname.

I'm not a fan of the TASM films. I'm hardly the only one but I'm not going to find a link just to show that.

Gritty or "more real" just isn't a good approach for some characters cause they weren't set up for that approach. Fantastic Four is one of those, Spidey is another.

It'd be like if you did a Blade film but made the approach a straight up comedy template.

I'd think that they want somethingthat will sit tonally alongside the X Men. It looks like they're planning on a coherent universe with the X Men, the FF, the new mutant TV show - I'd expect them all to have a similar grounding.

    And then there's Deadpool...

A sort of cuckoo cock ?

While it's certainly a well made trailer... dear lord if there is ONE comic book you make light and fun and colorful it's the Fantastic Four! I certainly didn't love the first two movies but at least they had a sense of humor...

I got a Warren Ellis vibe from the teaser.

I'm fine with that. I liked Ellis' take on the Fantastic Four in Planetary, though I don't imagine that there's anything in common between the film and Planetary. :)

But did you like Ellis' take on the Fantastic Four in Ultimate Fantastic Four? ;)

I've actually read none of the Ultimate universe. I didn't even know that Ellis had written Ultimate Fantastic Four until now. :)

Well, that at least didn't look like the total disaster a lot of people were expecting. I can't judge accuracy to the source material since I haven't read any F4 comics yet, but it doesn't sound like this will be a very good adaptation based on this trailer. Now, that doesn't mean it doesn't have potential to still be a good movie in general.
I'm kind of surprised to see people still going for the "grounded and gritty" approach to superhero movies like this, I would have thought the MCU movies would have proved you don't have to take that approach to be successful.

Yeah I think my main problem with ASM was it had the edgier tone, but still insisted on telling the same generic and derivative superhero story as before.

Still though, in retrospect it's a much more interesting movie than the cheesy sequel, and I give it credit for at least trying something different with the character.

Matthew Vaughn would agree with you...

Matthew Vaughn: People "Have Had Enough" of Christopher Nolan's Dark Superhero Films -

Speaking for myself, I agree with all of the above. I really didn't see much in the trailer that was recognizable as Fantastic Four anyway, so my interest level remains unchanged.

That's what I was going to say. It looks fine for what it is, but I have no sense whatsoever of the plot.

The teaser reminds me a lot of the teaser for Man of Steel. The theme of scientific advancement and achievement is at least something appropriate for the Fantastic Four. Otherwise, I have very little concrete idea of what this is about and whether it's anything like the Fantastic Four.

Then Vampire in Brooklyn is as close as they've done and that wasn't exactly a stellar film.
