And if he wanted to make his own grim and grey SF film that's what he should have done.
A Fantastic Four film should exist in the same sphere as GOTG; big, loud, colourful and fun. None of which is evidenced here.
Outside of the grim tone, the trailer didn't look bad. The powers look great and I've been a fan of Reg E. Cathy since Lights Out. I do agree with the above post thoug...Fantastic Four needs to be like Guardians in terms of the space factor. Fantastic Four is big science and space and not grim.
The vast majority of trailers are never scored by the film's respective composer.
I don't know, I think it does seem to know what it is, it's just not what a lot of people want it to be. I'm curious to see how it will pan out, I think people would be more intrigued if it wasn't connected to original source material.
It does seem to be the modern day version of the Corman film. Something knocked out (relatively) cheaply to keep the rights.
Marvel certainly don't always get everything right but I can't imagine them making a F4 film that wasn't a lot more faithful to the source material.

The thing is, no pun intended, it looks like it could be any sic-fi indie film...just based on that. Is it a sequel to The Core? Is it trying to be Event Horizon? A sequel to PUSH? It doesn't instantly stand up and say what it is and what it wants to be for something that then tells you it's Fantastic 4.
A little Flame On, a proto-Thing emerging from..from what, a cocoon? Nothing just says Fantastic 4 and it really should have.
I'm only interested in this on Netflix and then just so I can be informed about it for discussion. I'll await another trailer but the best thing I can say about the trailer is that for the material they shot they did bring their A-game to this first teaser anyway.

The movie does look like it's competently made, but I can't help but get an Amazing Spider-Man vibe from this. Like they've made it much more gritty and "real" than anyone really cares it to be, and ultimately the entire thing ends up just being completely forgettable in the end.

At least he seemed to have read a couple of Fantastic Four comics in his life.
This is just a teaser trailer. Difficult to judge an entire film off of a fifty or so rearranged clips shown out of sequence and edited to whet our appetites.
Looks interesting. Its certainly seems to be a different take on the FF, but that's not necessarily a strike against it. There's more than one way to come at the source material, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to adapting superhero comics.
I'm inclined to keep an open mind . . . and not worry too much about whether it's 100% faithful to the original comics.

Yeah, I agree. Actually, though, I'm hoping it is at least interesting as an example of what not to do with a well known superhero property. Even if it turns out to be an interesting movie, its already failed as a Fantastic Four movie. If you don't want to adapt at least the better aspects of the property, why not just make your own thing?
If you're adapting a comic, especially one with as much stuff to take from as the FF, doing a basically in name only adaptation seems like a waste, especially after Marvel has proved that making the movies more like the comics can be hugely successful. If this is the route they're going, they could at least sell back rights to Galactus, the Skrulls, etc. and let Marvel use all of the unused awesome elements FOX got along with the FF.
The movie could be decent, it might not be, but at this point it feels like I'll be a senior citizen before we get a great FF movie, or see stuff like Galactus, the Skrulls, etc. on the big screen.
Judging from the trailer, to me it already looks leagues better than the original movie and it's sequel. I'll reserve judgement until I see the finished product. I'm really curious how Doctor Doom is going to turn out.
Given the utter lack of publicity prior to today you'd think they'd go out of their way to impress, as opposed to coming out with something totally generic.
A trailer for a real Fantastic Four film would be hitting the some notes of fun and excitement as the GOTG trailer did.
I don't think those movies really get enough credit for capturing the fun, lighthearted tone of the comics. The problem was just with the simplistic, underdeveloped stories they were trying to tell.
