If I'm Riker... I'm like "Oh... cold shoulder? Well, that makes my life way easier. Thanks. If you need me, I'll be back on the bridge telling everybody what to do today"
I find it humorous when Data starts to ramble or look for alternate ways to say things, like "A useless hunk of rock, a piece of garbage, a-" and Picard cuts him off with, "Later" or "Enough, Data." That happens enough that it's very believable. I don't know that it happens later in the show that often, which to me is realistic because some of that stuff would happen earlier when the crew is not as familiar with each other. There may be instances of Data doing it later, but I can't recall any at the moment. There's one where he describes a fish as a "large, scaled-" and I think Picard stops him.
I've been re-watching a lot of the second season, and I have to say that Worf's interaction with the ebullient Benzite guy in "A Matter of Honor," who thinks he's doing everyone a favor by making all kinds of minor recommendations, is definitely funny.
RIKER: Well. I'm glad I ran into the two of you. When you have no memory of who you are, or who anybody else is, you find yourself ...
RO: The Counsellor tells me that at times like that, we might do the things that we've always wanted to do.
RIKER: She said that?
TROI: It's psychologically valid.
RO: (deadpan) Commander, don't worry about it. As far as I'm concerned, you and I have shared something that we will treasure forever.
(Ro leaves)
RIKER: Well, I'm a little confused.
TROI: Well, if you're still confused tomorrow, you know where my office is.
National Security Agency? What?I'd have preferred them to be NSA sex buddies

Okay, but there wasn't any danger of exceeding the character limit like with an ad, or a tweet, or a text, or a telegram, so such an abbreviation in the middle of the sentence was unnecessary.
Picard confusing a beverage and a person was also funny.![]()

And this is the reason why I rarely contribute to this or any other board. Thanks for reminding me what the internet is like.
The comedy in early TNG seems fine in retrospect since we know these characters and the drama they are capable of, but at the time it was just goofy. TOS was a really grim show most of the time. Like BSG grim. Roddenberry wanted it that way. He pissed all over Coon for writing too many comedies. Then in TNG he rewrote several very grim scripts into comedies. Season two was way more balanced with much higher stakes.
I really wish the Riker Troi thing would have been a more adult relationship. They're the only couple in all of Trek that worked, chemistry wise. In stead of all the huffy, pointless jealousy of two people who are "friends" I'd have preferred them to be NSA sex buddies who would have a reason to let jealousy show through. You really only have the right to comment on someone's sex life if you're having sex with them.

"Sub Rosa", he told a guy: "You're obviously not scotch yourself."
Unfortunately, it was the highlight of the entire episode...

"Scotch" and "Scot" can both refer to people from Scotland, but I think they prefer Scot. I've Scot blood in my genes, but family always used the other word.

Avoiding people like you would be most people's priority anyway.
