These are the Voyages

It's a gimmick episode and it belongs as a "one-off" in the middle of a season. As an individual episode, it would have been harmless enough. I imagine the script, or something very much like it, had already been written and was either shelved or waiting in line to be filmed at some point and Braga/Berman et al. were just too lazy and arrogant to write an original script because they didn't see the point in writing original material for a cancelled series so they picked this one off the cutting room floor and reworked it to shoehorn it in as the finale.

Yes, that's likely how it happened.

Aside from Trip's pointless death, you mean?

Obviously. Gratuitous onscreen deaths are like gratuitous boob-shots: insulting and degrading to everyone involved.
Yeah, you'd think they would have said something when they were waiting for Archer to make his speech. Not even a peep from Malcom who was supposed to be his close friend.

Almost as if they wrote and filmed the death scene after everything else was filmed & they realized how emotionally flat the episode was and they needed some drama.

In 726 episodes of ST, it is the only episode that actually makes me angry. It's so cheap and lazy and insulting and callous to every who cares at about ST. And its incredibly insulting to the cast and crew of ENT who worked for 4 years of their lives only to shunted aside to make room for characters of another show.

You know, it may be exactly what happened! Someone must have said, "This is too boring, let's kill one of the main characters to add a little drama."

That's sloppiness for you!

Another overlooked fact is they spent so much money on recreating the ent-d internally and externally there was nothing left for the actual hero ship of the series. This leads to a final episode of a show called Enterprise where...you don't see the enterprise at all apart from the final shot.
They also didn't pay to have Shran in the previous episode, because they were "saving" him for this shitfest.

The best part of this episode was the tribute to the three Enterprises in the last 30 seconds, when we hear Picard, Kirk and Archer reciting the mission statement together (sort of).
No, that was crap too. Those shows already had their endings and numerous subsequent movies. Including them in TATV was B&B basically acknowledging "This is the end. There will be no more Star Trek - because we killed it".

Gosh this is fun! Now I know why there are so many "haters" ;)

Except that wouldn't explain why Trip was absent during the speech if they only decided to kill him after that scene was filmed.

I feel the same way, although the ending of "Zero Hour" certainly pissed me off too. So Archer saves Earth, becomes friends with the Xindi, and then all of a sudden, with no explanation whatsoever, he's now in some wacky WWII-era time period with ugly aliens in Nazi uniforms? WTF?

The only reason why we even got that was because they still had the CGI model of the Defiant from "IAMD" and, of course, the new Ent-D CGI model.

Well, take comfort. At least we know that thanks to the JJ Abrams film, all the events we saw portrayed on Enterprise still did take place and even if the precious "prime universe" has been aborted/sidelined/closed off/locked/whatever, this part of previous Trek lore remains intact. ;)

(Though, I will admit I do take some pleasure in the knowledge that this is something of a kick in the pants to all the Trek "Purists"/Enterprise haters out there. )

It's amusing that in this new reality, neither the Romulans nor the klingons look the same. Plus everything is constantly sparkling!

Watched TATV for only the second time, the first was two years ago this month. Still hate it. Nearly turned it off in the first act with all the "Computer, freeze program" crap. Worse Trek series finale ever.

No offense, but what does any of that have to do with TATV?

But hopefully not the last one.

None taken.

In a thread dedicated to bashing the finale of the series, it just felt like a positive ray of light to include given how much some people just didn't care for the Abrams films. As bad as "These Are The Voyages" may have been, it's still part of the canon.
