Wow..... I'm so stupid..... I never knew you could up the skill points of your bridge crew.... I just got a whole new set of space and ground abilities I never knew I had acces to. :D

I think you're going to find the game get a while lot easier. :p

funny, since Cryptic is about to do away with them. the skill points, not the abilities. ;)

On the bright side when that goes through all those abilities are permanent, even if you replace them with new ones.

Kind of makes up for the EC price increase and the needing dilithium price on the higher ones.

How do you gain new abilities with the new system then?

You buy or craft skill manuals, use them on an officer and that boff will be able to use the skill at the current level 9 efficiency.
Unlike before the boff can learn every skill there is without forgetting the old ones.
You can then switch his abilities anytime at will outside of combat, making your officers much more versatile.

Right, ok. That's good to know. :) Thanks.

From the looks of it you can still buy skills from the bridge officer trainer they just uped the ec prices.

Also instead of training a boff with your captain, you craft the skill from a new r&d school which doesn't require leveling for about 400 dilithium a trait, yu can also trade and sell these things on the exchange.

You still gain skill points.

You always had a seperated pool of skill points for your captain and expertise for your boffs.
You just won't use expertise for your boffs anymore.

For those that don't know about how to get your boffs on Defera - head to the powerplant, Enter it and while in the turbolift type in your chat box /fillpetteamlist and boom your Boff team is there. Worked for me, just before when I was in the game briefly.

I really don't like this new system of boffins skill training. Cryptic, as usual, has not revealed the true cost of crafting training manuals. It most definitely won't cost the listed Tribble price of 500 dil and 1 ec.

Also, you will need a character with at least 22 specialization points in command to unlock crafting of Rank III skills such as emergency power to shields 3, attack pattern Omega 3, gravity well 3, etc... Further more if you are a tactical officer, you only unlock crafting of Rank III tactical manuals. So if you want to unlock crafting of all tac, sci, eng rank III manuals, you will need to have 3 characters each with 22 points sunk into command.

I've been on tribble looking at this, the level III captain trainable skills are still linked to the skill tree like present, not the new command specialisation.
I believe you need to spend 10 points in command/intel to initially train a Boff in either of these specialisation get get the basic skills, you will as you mentioned need to spend 22 points to get the level III skills in command/intel.

Overall I like this new system, it makes training you boffs easier especially if you need to train them in skills which is not the same skill class as you.

You forget the exchange. The manuals will be tradable and probably cheap enough after a few weeks and probably be easier to find than be birds with the right power.

The playerbase will tie the price to the zen/dil/ec exchange rate. So if for example, making a PADD costs as much as a Master Key then training manuals will cost 1 million ec.

Not so sure. Last time I looked it was way cheaper to buy vrafted gear than craft it yourself. This might be similar. But it will take a while before enough people are advanced enough in their crafting school to get prices down.
Some people will no doubt blast through the leveling process and sell them for an arm and a leg early, just because.

Be happy that you can discard them or sell on the exchange or send to your alts or put into the bank. ;)

Imagine the only way to get rid of them was to open them! ;)

Twice in the past two weeks, my female toon has been stalked by other male toons. Once, while playing Fleet Alert, I had a ship follow me around rather than join in the fight. Another, was during Undine Infiltration while I'm questioning Bajoran citizens....

*sigh*

My toon is only an avatar, people.
