‘Twin Peaks’ Returns As Showtime Limited Series

Except for The Straight Story, I have no idea what ANYTHING by David Lynch is about.

Well, Lynch is far more concerned about subtext and thematic meaning than text (I don't think there's ever been a more meticulous director when it comes to mise en scene)

I actually had to look up the phrase "mise en scene", which should be a clue as to how likely I am to understand Lynch stuff...

Oh yeah, forgot about Dune. I liked that film a lot, except for some of that sick shit about the Harkonnens. :barf:

but I've always found his work to at least have something of a defined narrative. Mulholland Drive is easily his most accessible film because it was written for television

...and that's another clue. I wouldn't call Mulholland Dr. accessible by ANY means (and those suggested discussion questions that Lynch posted, just made it worse), but like you said, YMMV. ;)

I wonder if anything of note about the show's original appeal or this new develpment is signified by virtue of the fact that all but 3 of the posts here, albeit an admittedly small number, are from members hailing from the admiral neighborhood or its equivalent? It definitely caught my eye!!!

Are you calling us old farts? I'd disagree but my age and flatulence would tend to prove your point.;)

I resent the implication that I'm old simply because I love Twin Peaks. Now get off my lawn.

Not my meaning at all, not the least of which because from what I gather I'm quite a bit older than most members here. Anyway, I really just found it interesting that the lion's share of comments were coming from folks that as veterans of the forum, are obviously hardcore genre habitues. Not that a cadet might not be one as well. I suppose a shout-out of sorts for those that, over time, have sampled and appreciated innovative and thought provoking programming in many different permutations!!!! :techman:

Well Twin Peaks certainly comes from a moment in time. It was only truly a thing for a few months before the public realized that it was to artsy and esoteric for there tastes and they went back to watching Night Court and Cheers or whatever.

Its a shame because it was great to be able to watch a David Lynch "mini-movie" every week.

I didn't watch very much of the original, but I think to get the full experience you'd want the good acid.

Bob? Who the hell is Bob? :wtf:

Lynch has confirmed on Twitter that he has left the series:

Dear Twitter Friends, Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks.

After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.

This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime.

I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.

Twin Peaks hasn't been canceled... yet. Negotiations with David Lynch broke down and he walked, which still doesn't bode well for the show.

Looks like someone beat me to the punch by a minute. :p

This is too bad. Twin Peaks is one of the few shows I would actually like to see some closure to.

Without Lynch my interest in the show has severely plummeted.

If Lynch and/or Frost wrote the scripts I can live with Lynch not directing. After all, he only directed a handful of the original episodes

All signs point to this being a negotiating tactic by Lynch, especially after Showtime put out a statement saying it still really hopes it'll end up working with Lynch.
