Star Trek Continues, Episode 4...

For me a huge difference is the way sets are lighted. STC recreates that TOS look very well. It's something that I've never seen to the effect elsewhere.

Duane, take it easy...

I dunno, having Mignona emphasize the word ''EXACTLY'' as he does kinda proves my point.

About the lampshade\ceramic pot thing: well, would you have noticed the difference during an episode? Nope!

And I agree with 005, I can live with chair creases and jellybean buttons and saltshakers if they'll give me a GOOD STORY in return. Phase 2 really upped their game with their last webisode, but STC fumbled their last play compared to their second one.

Bix, I am teasing. But he does seem to refer to the way the sets are laid out on the soundstage. JC from Phase II goes to great lengths the recreate background items in Kirk's quarters which I have never even noticed before. STC never touches on this.

I agree a good story is what is needed most. Still, I hate those damn creases and I hope they disappear soon : )

Well, thanks for pointing out the damn creases. Now I'm sure I'll notice them and join you in your misery. :p

That's a good point, and I also appreciate that they have stuck with the 4:3 ratio, which is essential if you're pretending it's 1969.

... and the added film grain. ;)

I personally find the NBC peacock kind of jarring as it transitions into HD 16:9 in PII/NV.

"Star Trek Continues is produced by Trek Continues, LLC in association with Farragut Films and it is filmed in Kingsland, GA on what they boast as the 'largest free-standing, extensive and accurate Star Trek TOS sets in the world'."

It's easy enough to Google "Star Trek Continues" and "most accurate" to find any hits (like the above quote from Trekmovie.com--when "Pilgrim of Eternity" was released).

FWIW, our last episode "Mind-Sifter" was released in 4:3 aspect ratio.

And no arguments from me: the script's the thing. Worrying too much about other aspects of the production just makes these fan productions look even more like Potemkin Village Trek.

I watched the first episode "Pilgrim in Eternity". I was impressed by how faithful it is to TOS. The sets are excellent. The music and sounds are right from the classic series. And, the plot, including the closing banter between Spock, McCoy and Kirk was very reminiscent of TOS. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Muthbusters' Grant Imahara.

Definitely check out the other two episodes, the production improves with each new episode. Haberkorn just nails Spock in the latest (Fairest). I hope he keeps a little edge in his future performances. And the guest actors in Lolani...just stellar.

I will definitely watch the next episodes. Star Trek Continues has the best production value of all the fan productions I've seen.

Just want to say that I was not a fan-film viewer at all until I learned about STC, but I've found it to be a gateway drug to the likes of Phase II and the Renegades team. Many such journeys are possible.

If you mean for Star Trek fan films, I would say STC is easily among the top 5 producers. But I've seen fan films for other genre properties that are just as amazing if one goes and looks online. I've seen an amazing Jason vs Leatherface webfilm (no, really!), and this gem from just a few months ago:

Sorry for the digression...

Star Trek Continues has easily taken the lead as my favorite Star Trek fan production series. There are times, when I'm watching it, that I think it's a TOS episode. It really is so very well done, and I look forward to the next episode, and the next!

From Michele Specht's Facebook postings and her Trek Radio interview, I am guessing that this weekend, or maybe Friday, is when they start the shoot for Episode 4. That would put them on track to begin the Kickstarter on the 17th around the same time they wrap.

I think Vic Mignogna's comment in his recent interview was that mid-February would see them start shooting Episode 5, so that will roughly coincide with when the Kickstarter ends.

Here is a cool interview with Colin Baker from Phoenix Comicon last month. He almost revealed who his STC character is, but not quite. It also includes his video segment for NASA's Orion program called "I'm on board"... I'm glad he wasn't.

Not bad. But he's wrong in that Shatner most certainly has done other things than Star Trek. In SF he was also in Tekwar. Not to mention The Outer Limits and Twilight Zone before TOS. Of course, there's also all the other non SF stuff he's done.

^ I think you're taking that joke too literally.

The leader of his nation sounds promising. Let's hope that his "nation" isn't made up of Klingons or Romulans. :)
