Aside from that, I don't recall many successful coaches fired because of personality issues. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I just can't recall any.

Happened with Marty Schottenheimer in San Diego seven years ago. Went 14 - 2 and got sacked because AJ Smith didn't like him.

^Because as everyone knows, organizations win championships. Phil Jackson is an egomaniac, but in every Bulls-related publication I've read concerning their championship seasons, Jerry Krause comes off as one of the most petty and spiteful people in all of sports. It's as if he was using his position as Bulls GM to give everyone who ever made fun of his weight the finger--Michael Jordan included, who used to hum the tune to Green Acres whenever Krause walked into the room.

Well, Marty did have a problem of not getting the job done in the play-offs...

The Krause comment is just amazing... I think Phil got in his knickers....

I listened to the presser from the 49'er dude. Never really said what the "issue" was just that there was one and they just needed to go their separate ways. I'd really like to here exactly what they didn't see eye to eye one.

Harbaugh isn't a yes-man, and York and Baalke didn't like that. That's been reported for at least a year and a half, it's really as simple as that.

Honestly, while this is the most moronic firing in the NFL since Marty Schottenheimer, Harbaugh is probably going to be a better coach at the college ranks, if only because his players will have five years at most to deal with his batshit-insane tantrums, as opposed to them wearing thin on a pro locker room.

That being said, given the way Harbs moves around, I fully expect him to parachute back to the NFL within three seasons, four at the most.

^I agree with that. He'll make Michigan better and use his success there as a springboard to a better NFL job--or so he thinks; I've a feeling he'll end up with the Bears a few years from now (after they've run Cutler and at least one other starting QB out of town).

1) Harbaugh would never get along with the McCaskeys.

2) The McCaskeys would never pay what it would take to land him.

It seems like, on average, NFL head coaches only get two shots, so it'd be stupid to jump into a second job too soon and blow it.

Except he didn't blow his first shot. He went to the AFC Championship Game three straight times and came within a hair of winning a Super Bowl, and the problem with the team this year was that half the defense was hurt or suspended (and Kaepernick has been exposed as one-dimensional).

I would say 4 at Michigan... for what they are paying him he would have to take a pay cut to go back to the NFL. We'll see. I know as a B1G fan that this helps the league.

He became president of the 49ers when he was 28 years old solely because his dad owned the team. He isn't exactly accustomed to people telling him "no."

Oh, so this is what's going on with the 9ers. I was unaware. If the 9ers start losing, this guy is going to regret this decision. Guys like this never seem to understand how difficult it is to put together a winner in the league.

I'm still hoping that Harbaugh, after restoring the Wolverines to national prominence, will land with the Raiders upon his almost certain triumphant return to the NFL in the coming years. Of course, I'm also hoping that we somehow won't need him when he does decide to come back to the NFL.

The Raiders offered Harbaugh more money than Michigan did, and he still decided to peace out back to the college ranks. That says something about how much of a shitshow the Raiders are.
