Dark Frontier and plot holes

Yesterday Spike re-ran Dark Frontier the two parter and I re-watched it. And after re-watching the episode it's so full of plot holes the episode is pathetic.

*Did Voyager just realize that a transwarp coil could be integrated into their warp drive because many times before they encounter damaged borg ships and seemingly forget about it again because encounter damaged borg ships after this episode?

*When they're trying to get their time below 2 minutes, why didn't they run instead of walk briskly?

*The Borg assimilated the tech that shields the crew but are able to simply 'modulate the frequency' to re-mask themselves?

*Do the Borg not rely on visual perceptions to track any potential targets - oh yea only when the script calls for them to not?

There are more but that's a start. These two episodes are riddled with plot holes that makes them terrible.

As Seven said, critical Borg technology essentially self-destructs when a vessel is destroyed. The only major Borg debris that the crew has encountered so far were the destroyed ships in "Scorpion" and the Borg cube in "Unity", which was blown up.

However, I will admit that it was a bit of a crutch for this episode.

Because that likely would have made the Borg perceive them as more of a threat.

*The Borg assimilated the tech that shields the crew but are able to simply 'modulate the frequency' to re-mask themselves?

Ah, but remember that this was Tuvok's implementation of the tech as well as the Delta Flyer using the shields. I'd think that a Starfleet tactical officer would be able to improve the (admittedly good) shield tech to help prevent detection.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here, but I believe that the shields essentially cloaked the Flyer from Borg sensors.

A plot hole is the crew not remembering Kes and her telling them about the Krenium.

But since that entire timeline Kes experiences never happened (since she left VOY before they ever encountered the Krenim) we can just write it off by saying that one of Annorax's temporal incursions erased their memories of that.

Notice how the scene of Kes finding the variances of the Chroniton torpedo is reproduced in "Year of Hell" except it's Seven instead of Kes?

There were some issues with this telefilm but it wasn't terrible. It did answer some questions--how the Hansons got to the Delta Quadrant, why the Borg left Seven alone on VOY without reclaiming her. We had some nice visuals. The oft-criticized continuity gaffe of the Hansons knowing about the Borg really wasn't a gaffe.

I've never liked the fact that the Hansens knew so much about a race no one else had encountered in the AQ and BQ (The El-Aurians had to have come from somewhere else, and I don't buy the story that the few scattered survivors would have simply spilled all the details they knew on the Borg). They even had a perfect model of a Borg cube for Annika to play with.

It's not that hard, considering that a Borg Cube is...a cube. All you got to do is make a Cube and paint it dark grey with bits of black in it.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure I had the same Borg cube to play with when I was little!

Just like the toy space ship from the Christmas scene in "Generations" is actually a toy from "Alien Resurrection," which I also had when I was younger.

I would think the El-Aurians were too busy running in fear to worry about studing the Borg. The few survivors didn't tell us much or else Starfleet would have been prepared for them at WOLF 359.

The Hanson were no different than people were see on PBS, Dicovery or Animal Planet that enter into the wild to study animals like Tiger's or Lions. Even though the animal is dangerous, they can still study it without disrupting it's daily routine.

The issue isn't whether the timeline had changed, the issue is whether Kes kept her memories of the erased timeline and told her friends about it. Because if so, the moment they heard the world 'Krenim' they should have plotted a new course.

And if the temporal incursions made it so Before & After never happened, what else from the first three seasons never happened? Give me an annotated list.

My problems with the continuity of Dark Frontier had less to do with details like whether a transwarp drive would be available and more to do with the incongruity in the behavior of the Borg. This is the first time in the series we see the Borg cutting deals and negotiating, and the first time outside of First Contact we see them yearning for abstract concepts of partnership. Which, in my opinion, made them a far less interesting villain for the rest of the show's run.

Their diary was only in Voyager's database because they downloaded it from the wreckage of the Raven.

So I just re watched The Raven and Dark Frontier part 1 trying to substantiate your statement. In The Raven, they locate the wreckage of the raven but there never was mention of downloading log entries or database. In fact they didn't have time to really do too much other than Seven recapping her memory from being assimilated there, then the Boomar attacked, they narrowly escaped on Voyager then Voyager warped out of Boomar space.

Then in Dark Frontier part 1 they magically have this diary and field notes for a year magically appear.

A plot hole is also when the Krenim are ten thousand light years from where they were initially supposed to be. Remember that in Kes' timeline, Kes didn't get the superpowers that allowed her to push Voyager ten thousand light years away...
