The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker threats

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

To be entirely fair, the major theater chains across the country pulled out first pretty much making the release of the movie pointless. So it's not entirely Sony's fault.

Sony speaketh:
[Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman] Lynton also addressed suggestions that Sony distribute the movie on either digital or multichannel VOD platforms, but indicated that no partner has stepped up. “There has not been one major VOD distributor or e-commerce site and said they are willing to distribute this movie for us,” he said. In a separate interview with NPR, Lynton made a stronger indication that Sony was working to find a digital home for “The Interview.”

“I shouldn’t say if — when. We would very much like that to happen,” he said.

Lynton also told NPR, “Yes, those are other avenues and we are actively exploring them …. to date, we don’t have any takers — neither on the video demand side nor on the e-commerce side. People have been generally fearful about the possibility of their systems being corrupted, and so there have been a lot of conversations about the robustness of various systems to be able to make sure they’re not hacked, if and when we put the movie out digitally.”

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. True? But is the friend of my enemy my enemy?

Pirate Bay survived a mortal blow recently.

Yes it's back, but it's hardly as indestructible as it was a week ago.

Sony should "give" the Interview to Pirate Bay so that North Korea will finally exterminate Pirate Bay once and for all for good.

Anonymous (the 'hacker collective') is now going after NK, it would seem. Linky

Now, normally I consider Anonymous to be a bunch of annoying jackasses, but in this case, I say let 'em.

They've picked a few good fights, one against Westboro for example.

So, while I understand the pressure on Sony for pulling the release on the movie, shouldn't there be pressure on the major theater chains to screen the movie?

North Korea proposes joint Sony hack inquiry with US

I have the perfect solution. Since we know they like our controversial former professional athletes, we'll send O.J. Simpson over there to help them. He's had experience in criminal investigations where the investigators were the prime suspects. If nothing else, at least he could help them write a book about it, "If We Did It."

Plus, all he's doing is cooling his heels in prison. We can probably get North Korea to agree to keep him over there for the rest of his term in exchange for lending him to them to help.

Win-win-win

It's limited, unstable, access through China. The number of registered IP addresses in NK is in the hundreds, maybe low thousands, as opposed to the billions registered in the U.S.

They have frequent bouts of outages because of their poor, aging, and unmaintained infrastructure (and using Comcast) but usually the outages don't last too long so as this outage became longer and longer it became more and more obvious that they had been cut off.

Obviously this is related to the U.S. working with China to retaliate against NK over the Sony/TI/GOP fiasco.

Kim Jong-Un is a particularly miserable specimen of what Gallagher once called a "penile tuber" ("dick-tater") and so were his dad and grandpa.

And the hack, and subsequent threats, should be treated as what they are: acts of war.

Once you start paying Danegeld, it becomes increasingly difficult to get rid of the Dane.

I wonder if Kimberly would be as brazen to attack Bollywood should they be as opportune to mock him?

‘The Interview’ Release Back On For Christmas Day in a couple of theaters

UPDATED WITH SONY’S STATEMENT: Sony Pictures is releasing its controversial movie The Interview in theaters after all on Christmas Day — likely in fewer than 100 indie theaters. We’re told the turnaround came after a conference call with Sony distribution execs that just ended. Several of the smaller chains are beginning to unveil the news via social media. “We just got the call,” said Brock Bagby, director of programming at KC-based B&B Theaters, which has 408 screens in eight states. “Our film buyers did. Sony will be playing it on VOD and letting anyone play it who wants it.”

Stoopid Disney.

You had to go and make them sisters because you thought that that would stop the kids from drawing filthy cartoons.

Idjits.

You just went and made their love more forbidden!

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

The media, public and elected leaders really should be putting pressure on the major movie changes for THEIR pulling back on and reluctance to release the movie.

They're a large part of this as well, releasing the movie in a handful of theaters, making this movie an art-film, is still pretty much giving in to the demands of the terrorists and succumbing to fear.

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

Sony wants to make money.

Sony loses MILLIONS if this movie is not shown, because they sunk millions to make it & they need a least break even on this investment to make their next project.

There's a house of cards.

The major movie chains are strong enough to say "No" to Sony without consequences, and they lose no money by not screening a movie they have no investment in.

The smaller nonalligned outfits however now see profit in this movie if only they have it and no one else.

As long as Kimberly doesn't do something predictable like pulling the fire alarm, all is well.

Imagine the historians dreading about how to write about this with any sense of gravity or seriousness?

"Kim Jung UN sent 4 thousand cleverly disguised secret agents to pull the fire alarm on every screening of the Interview on it's opening weekend."

On one hand, what a dick, on the other hand, above is way better than a Chlorine gas attack.

Re: The Interview movie release canceled by theaters after hacker thre

I think Sony might have won the day here.
As for the large theatres, they were trying to avoid litigation, nothing more or less. This has little to do with freedom and a lot to do with liability.
