Rumor: ‘Star Trek 3′ to Feel Like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy

Well, you're obviously not a true fan.

A super duper ultimate mega true fan hates the movie on principle, without ever having seen it, except either by accident for free, or because a friend paid for their ticket and practically forced them to go.

Under pain of death? ;)

I think a balance can be struck between GotG (which had its own source material and a talking racoon) and Star Trek. It doesn't have to be an all in kind of a thing.

You mean you believe that there should be a nuanced approach to both producing, and viewing, the film? Bollocks. It's all or nothing, baby! :p

I too am completely unfamiliar with the source material for GotG, but, I absolutely loved the movie. Once it ended, I found myself wishing I could travel into the future to watch the second and third movie, right away

As to the rumor, I suppose it depends on what exactly they mean (If the rumor is indeed true). There is certainly inspiration that could be taken from GotG.
There are going to be two sequels?
That's my understanding, that, like the rest of the Marvel Movies, it was aiming for a minimum of a Trilogy, unless the bottom fell out upon release, which, obviously didn't happen.

I will boycott Star Trek 3 based on this rumor.

I'm waiting for the first teaser trailer to be released before dismissing the film as worthless trash that no true fan would ever see.

I have principles you know.

Well the sweet seductive power of Bad Robot has caused me to doubt the Orthodoxy™ but I haven't given up my faith yet.

Good. I loved the first one. I'd be glad to see a second and third.

There was a Star Trek script set after Enterprise that dealt with the Romulan War and had a group of rouge character's going off to Romulus to make a first strike. Maybe they get some ideas from that.

But really, Star Trek has already been turned into Star Wars, what's the difference if it becomes something else.

I completly dislike the guardian of the galaxy film. the film was silly to me.

I think that was intentional.

it had unnecessary humor
When is it ever necessary ?

and was extremely marketed to kids with lots of explosions.
Why do people associate explosions with kids ?

because explosion is what kids can understand. most kids cant understand hard core sci-fi, social and political themes or quantum mechanics.

I'm up for anything...but I've never really understood why Star Trek has to "be like" anything other than...well....Star Trek.

Trek has never been hard core sci-fi, it's social and political themes are perfectly understandable by 11 year olds and no one has ever had to understand quantum mechanics to understand Trek.

Regarding Guardian's source material, the team/concept originally debuted in the late 60s and eventually sort of became a sort of futuristic (31st century) version of the Avengers. They had a comic that was published for a few years in the 90s.

However the current "present day" team-the one that features in the movie-is a far more recent creation, featuring a group of "cosmic" characters from throughout Marvel's history who form a team. It's sort of inspired more from Firefly and Star Wars. Some of the characters such as Drax, Gamora, Thanos and Nebula were big parts of the "Infinity Gauntlet" saga and it's sequels, which is also getting adapted into a movie in a few years.

There's also a few nods to the 'classic' guardians and some other aspects of Marvel in the film-notably Star Lord's boss Yondu was one of the original "future" Guardians.

I really don't understand this discussion about what movie has "superior" and "inferior" writing. Isn't that subjective in most cases? Sure sometimes you can point to things that have sub-par writing, but most of those never get popular, or are popular because they are "so bad it's good". No work of fiction is perfect or is universally loved.

Personally I enjoyed the Guardians Of the Galaxy quite a bit more than ST09 and especially Into Darkness, especially the well made and varied aliens!

Man I wish the next Star Trek movie would take a leaf out of GOTG's book and include some colourful interesting aliens as main characters! And some more female main characters, but that's also true for GOTG. (On that note, wouldn't it be cool to see Saavik or Illia?)

And I don't think a bit of humour in would be bad for ST, its sometimes a bit dry anyways.

Besides there are worse movies the next ST film could model itself after, the Final Frontier comes to mind...

because explosion is what kids can understand.

That is naive and slightly insulting. Kids are smarter than you give them credit for.

Neither can most people.

And when was Trek hard core sci-fi ?
