The Completely Shallow Holiday Materialism Thread.

Tora Ziyal, I covet your avatar. :D I'm also waiting for my letter, which is currently 35 years overdue.

Don't get your hopes up, sweetie. I've waited 54 years so far. :( But feel free to steal the avatar.

ETA: The only kids who actually get their Hogwarts letters on Christmas are the ones who were born on Christmas. Locutus?

Study hard and make us proud!

Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)

Dear Ms. Ziyal,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.

Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.

Yours sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall

Deputy Headmistress

Aw, that was sweet! Thank you, Sleigh Ride.

I'm really excited to be the first (half-)Bajoran to attend Hogwarts! Looks like I'll have to explain to them how our names work -- surnames first, unlike in most of the magical world.

You will be fine, though there are some at Hogwart's you may need to threaten with being turned into Pah Wraiths!

Oh, please, no! Remember what happened to my father?! Oh, wait, I wasn't alive to know about that, was I? Yikes, I'm confusing myself!

ANYWAY....another completely shallow thing I would like is a trip to Disney World. I haven't been there for DECADES. I would love to be able to take my nieces and/or nephew, but I couldn't even afford a ticket and hotel for ONE person, let alone three or four.

Same here-- or, more specifically, EPCOT. The last time I was there was in 1985 and it's expanded quite a bit since then.

^ We got a six-quart, red one a year or two ago, as a Christmas gift. It's pretty awesome--heavy as HELL--but awesome.

You can find some lower-priced models that aren't half-bad, if you shop around. If you want the super-duper heavy-duty ones like Le Creuset...well, that'll definitely cost 'ya. ;) On the plus side, you won't need to go to the gym; you can just carry that heavy sucker around all day!

What do you want for Christmas?

I'd love a new computer or phone but given a few late bills and unavoidable trips away Santa won't be able to afford that this year.

I'd love a nice hot day with clear skies so we can break out the water slide.

Re: What do you want for Christmas?

I have asked people to donate money to my favourite charity - ShelterBox. My best friend and youngest son will also probably get me a small, inexpensive present on top of that to put under the tree (a figurine, chocolates, rubber duck or something like that).

Re: What do you want for Christmas?

A large bit of rest&recreation. Going out with friends and/or family to see the next Hobbit movie.

Just some quality time with the family. Now that two of the three kids have jobs, everybody is always go, go, go.
