South Park: Season 18

Was surprised to see this is a 2 parter, it didn't feel epic enough like previous ones. I also didn't realize that the finale is next week, hmm I got to say overall this season has felt very weak at times.

I think, with a couple notable exceptions, this has been a very strong season. Cock magic, Oculus rift, Lorde, Freemium gaming, a lot of strong episodes this year.

I think South Park's best period was seasons 3-8. After that it kind of dwindled into medocrity where a lot of the episodes were either disgusting for the sake of disgusting, they leaned on things Matt & Trey think are funny and nobody else does, or they just followed the formula of previous episodes. I think the last two seasons are the funniest the show has been since season 8.

There hasn't been anything this season nearly as stupid as Human Centipad, the Japanese food restaurant, the episode where Michael Jackson possessed Ike, Randy trying to break a pooping record. Since there were fewer episodes this season I think it let them put more effort into their good ideas instead of spreading them out across their incredibly stupid ones.

I've never not liked a South Park season over all but I think this season has been one of the strongest. I haven't caught the most recent ep but so far I haven't seen a bad episode at all this season.

Ok, that two parter wasn't the greatest ever. It was just good. I agree they were throwing too many balls in the air without properly dealing with them. I expected an entire episode about Bill Cosby not a 30 second gag.

I'm going to scream CARTMANBRAH! for months, however.

What do you guys think are the best ten episodes? My picks:

-Asspen
IMO the best South Park episode. The timeshare part was good, but all the parts with the guy taunting Stan as if they've got some heated rivalry going on and Stan's saying 'No, no, I'm just learning!' are absolutely brilliant.
-Towelie
Another one of those episodes where the kids are unwillingly conscripted into a genre story and really just don't care.
-Fun With Weapons
All the anime parody parts are great, but then they end up with Cartman being nude and Butters having a throwing star in his eye at the end, and everybody is outraged about the nudity.
-Rainforest Schmainforest
Arguable the first episode of South Park's evolution to its current form.
-Imaginationland
The first of their really epic trilogies.
-Chimpokomon
Yup. That's how Pokemon works.
-Starvin Marvin In Space
One of their extremely well executed conceptual episodes.
-Pip
Making fun of the one book every teenager is forced to suffer through in high school. Great Expectations should have had robot monkeys.
-Butters Very Own Episode
Butters obliviousness to everything going on and 'Some Puerto Rican guy' made the episode brilliant.
-Casa Bonita
Probably the best 'Cartman messes with Butters' episode.

I can't even remember the best, but Towlie and Asspen are two of my LEAST favorite episodes.

The movie and the multi-parters always stand out for me. Imaginationland, Cartoon Wars, Cthulu, etc.

Not a fan of the 'Kids unwillingly dragged into a genre story they don't care about' episodes?

My least favorite episodes would all into three categories.

-Most season 2 episodes
About mid season 2 it seemed a lot like South Park was a one season wonder and they were just going to lean on the same repeated gags over and over.
-Overly gross or poop-centric episodes
Human centipad, Randy sets the pooping record, Oprah's vagina has a gun, etc
-Episodes where they miss the point completely of some issue.
Old people driving episode, first one that comes to mind.

I love the Peruvian monster guinea pig two parter...

oh yeah Oprah's vag gun was probably the worst ever episode. I liked Human Cent-I-Pad and Randy's Poop.

The rain forest one is definitely one of my favorites if not my all-time favorite.

A top ten list without "Scott Tenorman Must Die" is suspect in my eyes. :)

That would definitely appear in my next ten. :) Along with the Terence & Philip April Fools ep, the one where Stan turns 10, Christmas Critters and the GoT trilogy. Trying to pick ten out of a show with more than two hundred episodes is going to leave some of the great ones out.

I know I'm an entire year behind the times, but I finally got the South Park Stick of Truth video game. And it is delightful! It is so chock full of endless episode references and characters. And you're literally playing the tv show. The animation looks just like the show and there's tons of original scenes from the same people who make the show. I wasn't crazy about the turn based combat at first, but now I love it!

I just finished the game and the entire final act just left me with a huge grin on my face through the whole thing. I highly recommend this game to any South Park fan!
