Jonathan Nolan developing Asimov's Foundation to HBO

Hmmm...I did not think of that...a TV budget. See, I keep having this in my brain as feature films with a commensurate budget. Damn! No way this gets done right for a shitty 10 Mil. Please, someone that knows, tell us the budget will be bigger. :$

Think Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos.

Easily Foundation can be made on an HBO budget--think costume piece drama as opposed to space opera budget.

It's possible HBO could budget Game of Thrones money (roughly 6 million an episode) or Boardwalk Empire money (roughly 5 million an episode) to Foundation.

I think Foundation wouldn't be as expensive as that, though.

It might be more expensive because GoT and BW have standing set pieces. The Foundation series stretches across centuries, worlds, and cultures--so everything would have to be continually redesigned and reinvented.

This is where my imagination goes when I think of Foundation. And I hope you guys are right about the 5-6 Million. Shit, a Seldon Crisis before the thing even gets out of the gate!

Are they planing on having any spaceships at all?

Cities are going to be expensive, but if they're going to (hopefully be able to make the Dominion War look like a rerun of Blakes 7.) be making space ships I will toss my toys if they don't fight.

Eh, I don't care if they fight. All the fighting in Foundation was off screen. But I do want it to look futuristic and epic, for a change.

The fall of Anecreon was hilarious.

"Look at our big powerful spaceships that can lay waste to Terminus... Who do not seem to have any power any more... What's up with that?" Actually superficially from a spfx perspective, what happened there is quite similar to what happened to the Colonial Fleet in the first instalment of BSG 2004.

The Mule's crusade was a fleet crushing half the foundation, and the goodies fleeing from the Mule (Ha! That's funny) was all done inside spaceships, which calls for plenty of exterior shots so that you don't forget that they are on a ship. What about that trader ship landing inside an Imperial Warship, or the extended trip to Trantor in the first book to quantify how afraid they should be? There's plenty of call to show ships being ships, and War montages of lots of different battle(clip)s to show the passage of time worked excellently in Babylon 5 In the Beginning... I still want to see the Dalek answer to a CyberKing.

I had a horrible thought while I was complaining about the wrong Nolans' pay check for Batman. It occurred to me that after he somehow justified 90 percent The Foundations budget just "appeared" in his bank account, that the only usable product "The wrong Nolan" could release from there on would have been a puppet show with supermarionettes.

Try to imagine in all but name "Gerry Anderson's The Foundation".

(On Youtube yesterday I saw that someone acted out with stop motion Lego men, the first "chapter" to he hitch-hiker's guide to the galaxy radio show. Hell if it was just a puppet show, why not use the radio show of Foundation to voice the puppets... Yes, it is public domain, but as I understand it, that it wouldn't be any longer, if you changed the format.)

Sort of like I Claudius ... in SPACE! ;)

And the Foundation trilogy was patterned after the Rise and Fall of the Roman empire, so kind of fitting

Are you thinking of the BlackAdder Christmas Special?

Oh, Hugh Laurie, you used to be comic relief, now you're House.

Thank you, theenglish for the good comparison for my Foundation-Hungry, yet slightly addled brain.

And thank you Owain for kickstarting a distant but febrile memory of a Toga party, oh, so many (4) decades ago. The time was (19) 75 A.D., the place was ΦΚΣ, and the company was a certain Aphrodite who's mere presence cost me a 1 1/4 Dinari fine ($100)

You know who you are.

Toga! Tog ah! Toe Gha!

Toga Hemline = Toga Waistline?

There's a line from The Drew Carey Show, that Drew's cross dressing brother said about himself... "Big hands, big feet, can't wear a miniskirt."

The real question is: At rest, how far down your leg does your coozer dangle which in itself is a reflection of the toga hemline standing in barely for decency.

The lower your hemline the larger you are claiming that your Johnson must be, which can have at least two unfortunate side effects if you happen to be exaggerating how necessary your plunging hemline is: First is that it will startle & stun the most ophidophobic suitors approaching your perimeter, as well as cause some consternation about truth in advertising after the rulers are put away.

So really to avoid that bruhaha, your tip should be always almost exposed if your Toga ever affords the chance to accidentally twirl up, unless you like being known to the public at large as a liar.

Seriously, who the hell wears underwear to a toga party?

When the a Credits roll ( and oh, how they will roll) it will be:

Guy Gardener Costume Designer
Guy Guardinier Dialog Coach ( for)
"Coozer", "tip", "dangle"
And "ophidophobic"

Haha, well I can only hope it was worth the trouble in the end!

On Doctor Who recently, everyone was naked but also they were wearing softlight holographic clothing that seemed like clothing to the naked eye, but really wasn't.

Toga's do not have to be white.

Or all the same colour, or only one colour.

But if colour delineates systems of class again like in Logans Run or that Bullshit Divergence Movie.

Because of constant assassinations, I can see the emperor wearing battle armour looking something like Iron Man?

Ceremonial codpieces.

What about obeese humans in wheelchairs like in Wall-E?

Sun and Spaceship?

Doesn't that look litigiously familiar?
