Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Discussion

I'm so "over' Hawley and looking forward to next week when Jenny shows up again. She better be more than 1 side in a love triangle or I'm going to scream.

I am worried about what Abraham will do to Katrina when he discovers Henry was right about her.

I also miss Irving and wish if they had to replace him as Sherriff, that the new Sheriff would have been a minion of an evil coven fighting against Katrina's people all these years.

"All Henry, all the time" is getting boring this year, just as the headless horseman has become more lovesick sop than bringer of the Apocalypse.

Yes, "humanizing" the Horsemen of the Apocalypse may have been a mistake.

I tried to to keep an eye out for her, but I didn't spot her.

She posted a screen cap of herself, complete with helpful arrow, at io9, in her recap of this episode at io9.

And, of course, she's also writing CATWOMAN these days. (Picked up her first issue just yesterday.)

It was quite an emotional moment for Abbie and Jenny to be reunited with their ghost mother, if only for a brief time. The demonic nurse was easily defeated with a hex. I was glad to see Captain Irving and Jenny again on this episode.

Well, Captain Irving is finally free-- unfortunately as a fugitive, but hopefully we'll be seeing more of him. Of course, this can only lead to trouble with Sheriff Reyes when she finds out. And she will find out.

This was a nice story and provided some closure for the Mills sisters. Their mother was not as crazy as they thought, and was quite devoted to her daughters. That was quite a moment when the mural was revealed.

But, man, I can't believe they're using the baby-who-grows-up-overnight trope. I was not too happy about that.

It was nice to finally get an episode that focused so heavily on Jenny and Irving. It was also a nice bit of backstory with the Mills' mother.
I do agree about the fast growing baby though. I wouldn't have expected Sleepy Hollow to go in for such a common trope. I thought all of the stuff was going to go on longer, so that Katrina would become more bonded with Moloch before he reached adulthood.

The thing is, there's a practical reason why that trope is common. There are rules limiting the amount of time filmmakers have to work with a baby (which is why babies and small children in TV/film are often played by twins), plus babies can't take direction and create various complications of their own. So working with a baby week after week after week would be pretty unwieldy and not necessarily all that healthy for the baby. So if a way can be found to bypass the baby phase, you better believe most shows are going to take it. It may be cliched as hell, but it's kind of unavoidable.

Besides, it makes sense in context. Moloch wants the Apocalypse to happen soon. He's not content to wait around a couple of decades while he grows up and goes through demon puberty. So it stands to reason that he'd accelerate his maturation if at all possible.

Not to mention that presumably our heroes are going to slay Moloch at some point. It wouldn't look very heroic to brutally slay him if he was a helpless widdle baby, demonic-looking or not.

Well, if he morphed into Moloch it wouldn't be so bad. But now we've got a teenage kid saying, "Hey, mom, what's for breakfast?"

There are rules limiting the amount of time filmmakers have to work with a baby (which is why babies and small children in TV/film are often played by twins), plus babies can't take direction and create various complications of their own. So working with a baby week after week after week would be pretty unwieldy and not necessarily all that healthy for the baby. So if a way can be found to bypass the baby phase, you better believe most shows are going to take it. It may be cliched as hell, but it's kind of unavoidable.

Besides, it makes sense in context. Moloch wants the Apocalypse to happen soon. He's not content to wait around a couple of decades while he grows up and goes through demon puberty. So it stands to reason that he'd accelerate his maturation if at all possible.

Not to mention that presumably our heroes are going to slay Moloch at some point. It wouldn't look very heroic to brutally slay him if he was a helpless widdle baby, demonic-looking or not.

I understand all of that. I would have rather seen them just have him manifest as an adult. But I guess they want to have him as a kid so they can have Katrina bond with him, and add that new layer of conflict.

Arrghh, they've interrupted the show for the Ferguson press conference. I can't remember the last time I saw a network show pre-empt a show for breaking news. Hopefully the full episode will soon be available on demand or online.

Because of the breaking news, the episode ran long and my DVR snipped off the ending. I got see Abby grab the torch and head toward the oil basin...then nothing. Can anyone lay out what happened in the final moments of the show, please?

Because of the earlier breaking news, the station showing the ep started its own 10 pm news teaser early while Abby was grabbing said torch... and then there was another breaking news which started and stopped quickly... so needless to say I once again wondered why these things never interrupt commercials!

Anyway... Abby lit Crane's torch.. and then I missed stuff and when it came back the oil in the font was burning and then it went out and Crane offered to let Abby withdraw the sword and she insisted he do it. He plunged his hand into the font and withdrew a gleaming sword worthy of Excalibur itself and Crane proclaimed Morloch would not rise that night.

Later, despite hearing the shofar only sounding once (not thrice) , we see Henry in front of a bunch of torches and the two horsemen behind him and a full grown horned Morloch before him...

Then we got commercials.

I thought tonight was the midseason finale, but that's next week.

I saw the episode from beginning to end, and I was delighted there were no breaking news interruptions.

The quest for the sword was reminiscent of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, specifically the scene where Abbie must choose the real sword among the ones surrounding the "well." Ichabod was able to see Abraham's former self and thus engaged him in a fight. The Horseman blamed Crane for taking Katrina from him, among other things, but Ichabod pointed out that Abraham was responsible for his own actions, just as Crane himself made the decisions that shaped his destiny.

I still like the show but the cleverness of backstory should not give way to convoluted storytelling.

The production and directing values are keeping up, as is the acting, but there's just a danger of too much going on here.

Almost like there's too many characters to care about now... no keep it simple stupid here.

Looking forward to the cliffhanger for the cliffhanger.
