The Super Awesome Pet Thread

Dallie_01.jpg

Lovely! This photo is next to the dictionary entry "innocence" :)

Aw, thank you. She would have agreed with you, right before sneaking your pizza off the table. :D
No doubt! :)

Gul Re'jal, what a beautiful ginger kitty you have. :)
D'aww! What an adorable kitty cat! Handsome, too!

Which one? ;)
Thank you in the name of both :mallory:

My cat still loves me. Woke up to find a dead baby mouse next to me.

She loves you very much, no matter how long you go without having caught your first mouse yet. She secretly wonders if you'll ever learn, which is why she stays; she can't bear to think of you living alone, unable to catch your own dinner.

Awesome thread, btw, J!

I think she's noticed I've not been eating much of anything except saltine crackers the past week due to finances. ;) Most of the small bit of pocket change is being saved in case I have to buy more cat food until the check arrives Monday.

Souris hors d'oeuvres, perhaps.

Gotta love a cat giving us raspberries. ;)

More floofy goodness, this time in the form of Max and our cat Lucy snuggling with my husband.

:( Hey, it's protein. A bazillion cats can't be wrong!

Our Max as Mr. Spock.

Lots of pictures behind the cut. Bear with me.

This is Chewie. He joined our family in November 1998, a month after he was born on a farm in southern Virginia. He passed away last month, the day after his 16th birthday. Still trying to deal with that, so if it seems like there are a lot of pictures of him here, that's probably why. He wasn't the best dog in the world. He rarely came when we called him, he got away from the house more times than I could count, but despite living on a hill and despite how much our house was so frenetic and bustling with our comings and goings, he always came back and was our dog, our best friend. He was very protective of my little sister, fiercely loyal and always amusing and super cuddly. I miss him dearly.

^^This was taken last Christmas while I was home for the holidays. I always used to worry that this would happen, but this wound up being the last time I'd see him.

Last December I started seeing my girlfriend and together, along with her three pets we've got sort of a mini-family with her chocolate lab Molly (aka "Chocolate Dog") and her two cats, Lilly and Harrison.

^^ Lilly, aka "Sweet Sweet." She's an indoor cat.

Meanwhile, Harrison (whose full name is actually "Harrison Ford" because the person who found him in Texas and adopted him shares that same last name) is an outdoor cat, much to Lilly's consternation.

I do wonder sometimes though if Harry (as I call him) is really just plotting to murder us all in our sleep.

Really though, he's a sweetie and we're true pals.

Pets have added an immeasurable quality to my life. I didn't get to grow up with a dog or cat when I was little, and knowing now how wonderful and loving these animals I have known are, I do regret it. But I wouldn't trade the memories of all the adventures and fun I had with Chewie, and that get to have with Molly, Lilly, and Harry now for anything in the world.

Which is why this story about Beau concerns me so much.

I encourage you all to read and sign the petition to stop these overreactionary officials from carrying out their plans to put him down.

Hopefully together we can help save the life of a pet whose only crime was in being true to its nature.

Chewie was a very distinguished gentleman. You have my most sincere condolences for your loss, doubleoh. Even after four years, it still stings to think about who I lost.

That said, I love your dog Molly, and the cats. Look at them, look at them be cats! It's adorable!

I didn't realize your cat was named Lilly too, doubleoh. That's cool. :techman:

What the hell do they think retrievers are bred to retrieve? Socks? That's just idiotic. Signed it.

Meet the Feather Boys - Sir Gawaine the Diamond Dove and Calypso the Budgerigar (Budgie) Parakeet. Although both breeds are domestically bred here in the US as pets they are native to Australia.

IMG_2109crop01.jpg

Gawaine was bought as a pet for my daughter on Christmas '11 during my daughter's junior year of high school. My daughter and I both did a lot of research on pet birds. I just fell in love with Gawaine. So for my 25th wedding anniversary (September of 2013) my husband bought me Calypso. Both birds are very hand tame, fully flighted and their antics are a pure delight. People don't realize that budgies are true parrots and one of the best mimics in the parrot world. (Go to youtube and look up Disco the Parakeet - amazing!) Calypso mimics my daughters cell phone text chirp so well she checks her phone. He can somewhat say "pretty, pretty pretty." He also does what we call the Ernie laugh (from Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie) making a "Khee hee hee" laughing sound while bobbing his head up and down.

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie
