I might be wrong about this, but I think you might start the log once you are in system, not before.
I was wondering about that as well...
I'll give it a shot....
EDIT: No dice - as they used to say in the 50s/60s - even when I do the combatlog in the system.
/combatlog 1 just turns on combat logging for your current gaming session, so typing it once every time you start playing is enough to log every single shot you fire (both ground and space) for the entire session.
I'm not sure why you cannot find the log file. Perhaps you have several different copies of STO installed? I know I have at least 7 or 8 different copies of the game...I have the old stand alone launcher (itself has 3 versions... Live, Beta and Playtest), the Arc launcher (honestly I don't know where it installed its version of STO), and finally I recently installed the Steam version of the stand alone launcher (also containing Live, Beta and Playtest versions). So depending on which version of the game you launch, the log file is in a different folder.
I believe its a matter of finding the right version of the game client. You'll know its the correct folder when it contains some of these files:
Clientservercomm.log
CombatLog.log
Crash.log
Netcrc.log
Objectlog.log
Overlappingregions.log
Pcl.log
Shutdown.log
Vivox.log
Voicechat.log
Alright, let me try this again...and I'll post my results. I'm logging into my Steam account now.
I have two versions of STO: Arc and Steam. However, I may delete one in the future.
EDIT:
Alright, a bit of success!
I actually downloaded the ACT parser this time and used Steam instead of ARC...

*Duration of battle was just around 4 min.
*Damage from me was 760, 428, from 'them' was 294, 604
*EncDPS from me was 3,140.97, from 'them' was 1,216.87
*EncHPS from me was 991.68, from 'them' was 202.87
*Damage taken by me was 237, 812, and by 'them' was 817, 220
I'm still a bit lost since I'm still learning what all this means...haha
