The 'hate Star Trek V' bandwagon.

I'll like whichever Star Trek movie however I damn well please, and I shan't have my motives questioned by anyone. Whether the intention of the thread was meant seriously or not, I find the idea behind it somewhat repugnant. All this talk of "can you really be certain" or "you can never really know" is a passive-aggressive con to try to softly force people to hive-think in the way someone else wants the masses to. As Shakespeare's Gertrude might say, "the OP doth protest too much, methinks."

Bottom line: you like what you like, and I'll like what I like, and leave it at that. And if you can't handle other people having different opinions, then a discussion board isn't the place for you.

It seems that a lot of people here want me to be a troll. Sadly, this is not the case - no matter how much a lot of you want it to be.

The OP's basic flaw here has been that they're assuming that anyone here with negative feelings about the movie are following some kind of sheep-like 'group consensus', while anyone with positive feelings towards it are making up our own minds. The possibility that somebody could be able to make up their own mind and come to a negative conclusion has apparently never occurred to the OP.

Interestingly, the latter viewpoint seems to indicate that the OP themself is unable to come to a conclusion without basing it on some pre-existing assumption, which is exactly the conclusion that the OP claims has led to this 'bandwagon' thingy alluded to in the title.

I am sure the irony of the above will be lost on the OP. ;)

Insults, too? Nice.

You do realize that your aggressive gang mentality is proving me right.

By all means, all of you - carry on.

That's for a moderator to decide, not us. But I have a feeling one will be coming along soon.

Was I being insulting? Or was I, as you claim this whole thread to be, simply "not being entirely serious" in my response to you? :)

One thing is for certain:

I was right about this! :techman:

It seems like a case of sour grapes on your gangs part.

'Who is this Hans upstart? How dare he accumulate 2,000 plus views for his thread. We must take care of him immediately. Golly gosh, people may actually listen to what he has to say and where will we be then?'

:techman:

I must go now. In case I do not get another chance : Always remember my good humor. Be satisfied in the knowledge that Hans Verhaaden was driven out by persons threatened by decency, honesty and individuality.

Always remember: Hans.

Dangerously popular? Who likes you?

2,000 plus views. Sour grapes, no?

I am not here to be liked. It's not important. I seek no gang for comfort. Freedom of expression is more important than acceptance into a clique.

I should not need to tell you all of this.
No need for you to leave then.

Nothing wrong with liking STV. A lot of people do. If it was showing on TV right now I would watch it. Nothing wrong with disliking it either.

Nothing wrong with having a different point of view than the popular view. Just might have to toughen yourself up to take the flak from around here.

My own humble opinion of STV is that it's the "Spock's Brain" or "And the Children Shall Lead" of the Trek films.

The only thing I liked more than "meh" was the observation lounge with the tall-ship helm wheel.
I love the scene where the big three are confronted with their pain, all the while the Great Barrier is creeping up on them. Not to mention De Kelley's excellent work in that scene. Combined with Goldsmith's light touch, and it was just all very well done.

You may have posted a lot, but you haven't really said much of anything as far as I can tell.

He's just here to yank chains, guys. He's about as serious as the movie he pretends to love.

I find huge amounts of the film almost unwatchably bad, but that's not down to a dislike of Shatner taking the helm.

I should add that while my friends and I enjoyed bagging Shatner about ST V in the lead-up to the premiere, some of his directing work on the film was really quite innovative. The "field of holes" sequence was very moving.

Be satisfied in the knowledge that Hans Verhaaden was driven out by persons threatened by decency, honesty and individuality.

Driven out by whom? When? Did I miss a page of posts somewhere?
