The 'hate Star Trek V' bandwagon.

Why was everybody in Star Trek V either silly (Scotty, Uhura), incompetent (Chekov, Sulu), naive (Spock and McCoy falling for Sybok)... apart from Kirk?

I wonder why the director considered that a good idea!

:shifty:
That was the studio. They were essentially pressuring Shatner to "make the movie funny like the last one," and it had a negative effect overall on the movie. Shatner wanted a darker film.

Again, you're not giving people credit for having their own opinions and implying that they're all mindless sheep who are swayed by their adulation of Meyer . . . or peer pressure . . . or anything other than their genuine reaction to the movie.

Here's a crazy idea: maybe the people who don't like the movie do so because, well, they just don't like the movie.

Is that really so hard to accept?

But we don't know for certain that it is their genuine reaction to the movie. Are you psychic? Can you read the mind of everyone who claims to despise TFF?

All I am getting at is that there will be some - not all - some people who will pretend to dislike it to fit in with the 'common consensus'.

Count me as one who doesn't hold a high opinion of Meyer, particularly since he put things in the Trek films that I strongly disagree with.

One of the positives of TFF is it doesn't have that "submarine in space" sensibility that Meyer put into his films.

Goodness me!

You'll have to be careful. I had a friend who said the same thing and a week later the brakes on his car were 'faulty'.

;)

No he can't. And neither can you. So your question is really pointless. But hey, you were never really serious about this to begin with, so whatever.

Why so serious? The thread is lighthearted yet sincere in its core belief.

Sorry to disappoint you but there are people who like Star Trek V here...

I'm being as serious as you are. And I care nothing about people liking the film.

Then give me a break? I've only just got here. I feel as though you are angry that a small band of Star Trek V fans could - shock horror - unite and get along with each other.

Perhaps I am wrong but it feels that way.

There have been people who like TFF on this board since before the vBulletin software this site presently runs on was a gleam in its creator's eye. There haven't been flame wars and everyone's got along with everyone just fine. Get off your high horse before you start suffering from oxygen deprivation.

I apologize for liking the movie so keenly. Hey, a Star Trek board where newcomers who express their liking for a movie, airing their opinion and generating discussion are threatened with destruction.
Popular consensus only or flaming accusations will come.

Nice.

My own humble opinion of STV is that it's the "Spock's Brain" or "And the Children Shall Lead" of the Trek films.

The only thing I liked more than "meh" was the observation lounge with the tall-ship helm wheel.

Just don't think it was a great movie. Why do you think I'm lying? Are you psychic?
