Survivor Blood v. Water: Take Two

Looks like the John Rocker explosion is scheduled for next week. Not gonna miss Val.

At the end of the first/beginning of the second week, she lies about having TWO idols?!

What an idiot.

Lying about an idol only works if they don't have the votes to split.

Why does it seem every season the loudest most arrogant person immediately finds the idol?

Hopefully Rocker doesn't last too long after he goes full Hantz next week. Though with that freaking idol I don't know.

That was some quality guilt tripping on Baylor's part after splitting her lip. Her mom folded like a deck of cards after that and didn't even put up a fight. I can understand crying from the pain at first, but she really milked it. If she was being strategic though, well played.

I guess Rocker needed a booster shot of 'roids out there when he was facing the much smaller Jon. For all his whining about "losing to a girl" which denigrates all the women competitors, he got his ass kicked by a smaller man too. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Plus, with his size, it was a bad idea to volunteer for a reward challenge that depends on ducking under low bars while balancing a ball on a platform.

I can't for the life of me piece together Val's strategy by claiming to have two idols. One, it's stupid to go around bragging about having an idol even when you really do have one, because it makes you a target. Two, it's stupid to go around bragging about having two idols in only six days because it's not very believable, and because it makes you an even bigger target if they do believe you for some reason. Three, when people started talking about how they were going to vote for her in addition to Baylor to flush out her non-existent idol, why the hell wasn't she scrambling? Fourth, if you get caught in a lie, no one's going to trust you again. Just a bad decision all around, made more so by the fact that she didn't utilize the clue she had to search for the actual idol very hard.

I was also surprised Val didn't do better at the fighting challenge since police train for riot and crowd control with those pads which simulate using shields.

The individual reward challenges do give the drama of loved ones facing off against each other, but it's not quite as satisfying as having teams face each other. When Jeff says a team's lost four times it's not really true because only one of their members lost on two of those occasions.

Looking forward to Rocker being outed by Jeremy and showing his true colors on the next episode.

Val was probably thinking about the way Rupert saved himself for three days in HvV by putting a rock in his pocket.

In that case though they didn't have the numbers to split, because they didn't trust Sandra not to flip if they tried that. In this case they controlled six out of eight votes.

Baylor must be thinking now that maybe she's the least valued member of the alliance.

Really stupid move on Val's part. It might help her husband, though since he can quit worrying about protecting her and concentrate on his own game. I suspect he'll need to- sooner or later players will start talking and realize he's made promises to too many people.

Good to see Rocker gone. But also shocked that Natalie actually made me take his side on something, I didn't think that was possible. I don't see her surviving a single tribal council.

Probably a dumb strategic move to vote out Rocker, besides being an asset at challenges I doubt he would have betrayed his allies. He's an ass but a team player, and would have pulled in Julie after the merge.

Hopefully Julie's game isn't ruined by Rocker, she seems like a genuinely nice person. (Opposites attract, I guess. ;) )

I can't really fault John for his reaction to Natalie. Surely anyone who watches The Amazing Race has a violent reaction to her at least twice per episode. This cast hasn't gotten interesting enough for me yet for Rocker to be expendable, so I'm sorry to see him go.

Natalie's rant was a little ridiculous. Just because you dislike somebody over their politics doesn't mean you can try to bully other people into agreeing with you. Everyone else in the game was willing to form their opinion of Rocker based on interacting with him and not based on third hand knowledge of things he said 15 years ago.

But when Rocker was saying "How could I be homophobic? My ally is gay!" It sounded like Stephen Colbert's running "Black friend" bit. Rocker swears he's not racist, swears he's not homophobic, yet he never once says "The things I said in that interview were wrong".

My god, I might have had Rocker's reaction to Natalie even if she was screaming compliments at me, that voice... But seriously, Natalie came off entirely out of line there, berating Rocker on things that happened so long ago, and that she had no real knowledge of other than what she was told recently. She was obviously still bitter at her sister being voted off, but that's no excuse, she's the worst.

That being said, Rocker has no one really to blame but himself. You gotta react better to that. He seemed to generally be respected by his tribemates before that, so he easily could have made himself the victim there if he played it differently. I'm disappointed in the general lack of strategy in voting out Rocker. I can't remember when it's ever gone well for a team with a losing streak to vote out stronger assets. I lost a lot of respect for Josh as a player in making that move. You've got a guy like Rocker, who is not only helping your tribe physically, but he trusts you enough to show you his idol, and he ultimately probably has no chance of winning it all. Why not keep that guy around?

I'm not. His screaming that he'd knock Natalie's teeth out if she were a man and his "Let's fight" were threats of violence. It's good they got rid of him now, because things could have been a lot worse later.

I liked Natalie and Nadiya in The Amazing Race because they were competent at the tasks and not afraid of having to get dirty. Their most annoying trait then was yelling, "Come on, Twinnie!" at each other.

Now? I don't like them in Survivor. At least not Nadiya, with her "gay guy = girl" BS. Natalie is blunt and outspoken, but hasn't said anything really unforgivable that I recall.

Hmmm. Rocker was arguably the best person in the history of Survivor you'd want to take to the finals with you. Your speech at the end could literally be "I'm not John Rocker" and BOOM a million dollars.

So it's unfortunate in that sense he got voted off. He obviously shouldn't have said that to Natalie but I found it a bit ironic Natalie was calling him unsportsmanlike when she was being the very definition of the word.

Good season so far, bit too emotional, but good. The gay guy who's name escapes me seems like the favorite right now but that obvs can change when the merge happens.

Is it me or does it seem like one tribe has just been dominated in challenges for quite a few seasons in a row now?

I don't think Josh is the favorite to win. He's got an incredible social game but he's proven he shies away from good game moves and picks his allies emotionally.

I don't know who the favorite is to win yet, there's no obvious standout player like Tony or Tyson. Last two season, the person you would have pointed to in the first few episodes as the obvious best player was the player who won. There's no player like that yet this season.

Jeremy seems like a strong, intelligent player. Alec and Wes seem like good players if they can find a way to overcome numbers after the mere. We haven't had a chance to really see what the blue tribe is made of just because they haven't been to tribal yet but Julie may be in a position to benefit from John's ejection. Besides not having any liabilities on the other tribe she can take advantage of psychology to be kept longer. (Look up 'Insufficient justification').

My theory about Julie is that people will attribute any feelings they have to vote her out to the fact that her partner was John Rocker, and then dismiss them as unfair, and be more likely to keep her as a result. In a reality show, if people have a bad reason to vote you out, it will cause them to convince themselves of good reasons to keep you.

This week's episode does not reflect well on any of the cast. A few more of the characters have been revealed as either douchebags or terrible players. None of the younger straight guys seem even likable now.

This season reminds me of one of the very early seasons, in that nobody seems to have any idea how to play the game. Maybe last season was lucky with the great casting, and CBS was right to focus on returning people.

Another overconfident loudmouth is gone, and good riddance.

I still have no idea who I'm hoping will win. Maybe Jeremy, as he hasn't said or done anything awful (yet).

Jeremy is pretty much the only player that has displayed any actual competence, though his inability to mobilize people in a singular direction suggests poor social game.

Wes seems to have a competent social game. Josh has a great social game but doesn't have the guts to make big strategic moves. Dale and Keith are likable but terrible at the game. I think Julie's game was strengthened by Jon losing, and she's got a shot. Anyone else, well, if you don't know their name by week 4 they probably didn't win.

I don't understand why they targeted Kelly instead of Dale there, or also Baylor instead of Missy. It seemed the parents were the ones causing the problems around camp and not doing well at challenges.

There are just so few people to root for this season.

Possibly the most boring episode of Survivor I have ever seen. Nothing interesting happened with the switch. There was no reward challenge. There wasn't even anything close or interesting about immunity challenge and then they had to milk the hell out of the who will the power couple side with at tribal council.

Both Missy and Baylor need to go.

I wonder if there was supposed to be a reward challenge and it got cut due to time constraints? At the very least, the tribes should have had a little food-related 'welcome to your new tribe' treat.

That said... they seriously only get enough rice and beans to eat once a day? Which tribe has the fishing gear and why aren't they using it?
