wow, my interested in these Trek movies is officially dead. If STID and now Orci directing wasn't enough, this is the nail in the coffin.
ST09 was the origin story, STID built on the Kirk & Spock friendship. If they're bringing in Shatner and Nimoy as the "future" versions of these characters to bookend the trilogy, I'm all for it.
It would be a nice sendoff for Bill and Leonard, since we don't know how much longer they'll be around (and they know it), and "possibly" a great 50th anniversary gift for the fans.
I'm content to wait and see.![]()

nope to the highest level of NOPE
I like these movies for the new characters and the possibilities of this being another reality. Stid already had too much fanservice but I'm still here hoping that they get back to what made the first movie new and successful. If they won't and the third movie will be a fan service fest I hope to read the spoilers in time so that I can save myself from being too disappointed and perhaps I can decide to not watch it at all and move on.
eta: not that I believe this rumor but as a general feeling I worry that Orci and the two new writers WILL do even more fanservice and fanpandering than in stid.
Orci is human and with him being a first time director and also his history with the fans over trekmovie (that in no way are the majority of the fandom but try to explain it to some people there... ) he might try to keep it too 'safe' and do a third movie trying to appease that very vocal minority of people online, which is a terrible idea.
It doesn't make me feel better that the new writers helping him also are first timers when it comes to big franchises and they need to prove themselves so I fear that these 3 people will think way too much about what tos elitists want.
People like JJ are everything this franchise needs precisely because he will never do a movie just for the star trek fans (or at least those vocal online who want everything to be like tos and can't let go of Shatner&co)
People like him don't give a damn about what haters say. He's a successful director, he has confidence over his job now and the box office proved him right. I suspect he doesn't even bother reading what fans or haters say online.
Orci on the other hand interacts way too much with the fanboys over trekmovie and I never liked that. Granted, he interacts to defend himself and his movies for the most part but again, he's still human.. and no one likes getting criticized...

Malakia or Majra which even name you go by is fine with me but I agree as well. I think the people on trekmovie may not be all that in tune with the fans outside the trek bubble.
I have been on other sites like slash films and ign and the fans there all are saying the same thing. the whole point of the new film was to break away and start fresh and new so why raise up the dead and so on. Nimoy and Shatner have had their time. Orci needs to let it go.

I will not mind small cameos from them like what Stan lee does in the marvel films but in no way do I want a new story line of a resurrected Shatner as Kirk and an old 129 year old Spock in the new films trying to live out their glory days.

Me likey. ST'09 and ID have been very much defined by the Kirk and Spock friendship, seeing them as BFF's in old age (Bones in TNG was 137) would make an excellent bookend.heres its been revealed already

This likely won't be a very popular thing to say, and I certainly intend no disrespect to Shatner or Nimoy, i'm just speaking from the standpoint of reality... But the flip of that coin is that this may be the last chance we get, as a fan base, to commune with the original two. Forever.
It's the 50th. It's a once in a life time moment, and Trek is one of only a few franchises to make it this far and still be relevant and viable in at least some fashion. I don't know, with all due seriousness, if this is so black and white as "yes they should" or "no they shouldn't."

Same here; these fans who want this to happen really, really need to 'get a life' as Shatner said on SNL, and Abrams, Orci, & Kurtzman need to tell them to put the frack up or shut the frack up (and stick to watching the older shows, movies and fan shows if they can't stand the new movies.)

Bill & Leonard already had a 'send-off; of sorts; it was called Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
Thank you. I feel as if most people here may not understand the gravity of what they are saying. Rhey want the old guys back for Nostalgic reasons and not for plot or story but what they do not get is that TIME is a respecter of no man.
I'm pretty sure I've asked you before to refrain from taking pokes at other fans or groups of fans. Please do better.[...]

Careful. You wouldn't want to give the impression that you're again calling other posters ignorant.[...]
