God, Donna Noble was annoying and boorish.

I like how they explain the space shuttle crashing and why it's a space shuttle two seconds after I post here. I really like the episode, probably my favorite of the season. It's Doctor Who, silly is what I expect.

I like the fact that everyone had stopped exploring space. It's sadly a more realistic prediction of the future than most.

Horrible science

Anything beyond the fact that there isn't a creature growing inside the moon? ;)

Well, the shuttle couldn't go to the moon...nor is there an airlock in the payload bay...nor could the payload bay be pressurized nor could the people on the moon see all the lights on earth since the moon doesn't revolve around the Earth that quickly (and if it was a new moon then they'd be SOL because the moon would be facing the day side of the Earth).

But, even assuming there was zero cloud cover, people turning off their own lights wouldn't reduce visible light. Entire power grids would have to shut down. And this is all within 45 minutes, no?

Damn. When I watch Doctor Who, I expect total verisimilitude in the portrayal of NASA's technical specs.

Well it's not too far off the specs of Ranger 1, which looked exactly like a Space Shuttle except that it could fly through open space, land and take off without being taken apart and oiled/cleaned and put back together again.

I'm kind of surprised to see so many people who enjoyed Clara more when she was with Smith.

Not that I didn't like her during that run...I did....for what she was....which was essentially a plot device. She had no real character because that was the arc of the last half season "who is this girl".

Now she feels like a more fleshed out person. Yeah some of those things are bad personality traits but that's fine. I think her performance is great.

She's too pretty.

Regular looking people don't like that.

Standing next to a really old guy makes her much more attractive than when she's standing next to a 33 year old.

I've been thinking about this episode quite a bit and came to the conclusion that I liked it. I think the best part was the end with the Doctor and Clara, and I do say that Clara has been written pretty well this season. Ever since this new Doctor came to her life, he's been nothing but disrespectful to her, and she was finally tired of his bullshit. It also goes back to the end of the last episode and the discussion between Danny and her.

As for the Moon and moral dilemma, it was there I guess but I don't remember a time when the Doctor would just abandon his companion like that, which goes back to calling him out on bullshit.

I still think Time Heist was the best episode this season, but I've really liked all the episodes except for the one about Robin Hood. It's been a better season than some of the convoluted Matt Smith years, like the season of the impossible astronaut.

They didn't need him last Sunday.

The Timelord was Surplus to requirements.

Sometimes humanity is doomed, and needs saving, but last week they were fine.

I still keep thinking that the 12th Doctor acts a lot like the 4th Doctor. Just a bit older and grumpier. He treats Clara about as badly as he treated Sarah Jane, dispite being his best friend. He also treats humans about like the 4th Doctor did, aside that he doesn't smile when he's pandering. He's is certianly as full of himself as the 4th Doctor. At least he isn't as arrogant as the 6th Doctor, though there are a few traits of that incarnation there as well (the dislike of being wrong).

Though sometimes he still talks like the 11th Doctor. Rapidly when he's putting something together and trying to get rid of distractions when he's missed something.

Mind you I've not watched nearly enough of the 1st Doctor's episodes, nor enough of the 5th through 7th Doctor's episodes. But the 12th reminds me of things from the 2nd and 4th Doctor's eras.

It'as taken me a few days to mull this episode over, on the whole I think I enjoyed it.

I dislike Clara more every episode though.

The Doctor behaved correctly in this episode to some extent, he isn't God and should keep showing up and making all the critical choices for humans.

He was right to keep out of it, but dropping in a groomed companion to make the choice is almost as bad. Clara should know what life on the TARDIS is like by now and she should keep out of it if she doesn't want to be put into these situations.

I preferred Courtney as a companion in this episode to Clara.

One random thought. Could the older moon base, the Mexican one, have been the remains of the Transmat center on the Moon that the Ice Warriors invaded during a period of time when Earth had no space program remaining? The Doctor had needed to use an old experimental rocket to get to the Moon, much like NASA needed on old shuttle to get to the Moon this time. (The TARDIS was completely unreliable for short hops within a point in time back then. Actually it was unreliable for going about anyplace the Doctor might want to go back then, just kind of hoping around at random, though centering on Earth a lot)

This would be during the Second Doctor's run.

Later, also on the Moon, there would be a moonbase in 2070 (invaded by Cybermen), and later still a space station called the Wheel farther out. And that is only nine years later (also invaded by Cybermen).

The abortion analogy really doesn't work.

Honestly, I thought the episode was riffing on the ending of Peter David's Star Trek: New Frontier "pilot," where the Great Bird of the Galaxy has been incubating inside the planet Thallon. The abortion angle didn't even occur to me.
Same here. The moment the idea was presented, I immediately thought of New Frontier. I didn't think of abortion until I saw this thread and it still seems like a huge stretch.

I've mostly given up on Clara TBH. She was introduced as a plot device which dragged on throughout the entire season while adding very little to her character. She was just the attractive, perky one. And her hair is always way too perfect. Symbolic of the series' direction as a whole, really; emphasis on the looks rather than the content.

I preferred Courtney as a companion in this episode to Clara.
She was certainly a more believable character! With some fine tuning, I can see her working as a companion - although then the series would go a bit Sarah-Janeish, wouldn't it?

I loved the Sarah Jane Adventures, but I wouldn't want the main show to go that way.

Nonsense. The Fourth Doctor NEVER said either outright or by suggestion that Sarah Jane was old, fat, and ugly. Those are three things he's said several times to Clara.

There was one incident where he called Sarah Jane weak and helpless, but he did it because she was ready to give up and he knew that if he made her angry at him, she'd push herself to succeed. After they got out of the situation, they made up.

Eh, Courtney's the same basic age as Ace (as well as Nyssa and Adric were also supposed to about 15/16).

Plus, if he does go back for Journey Blue, it could be Journey and Courtney

Actually you are right, Adric was 15? and Ace was just a year older than Courtney.

Nyssa was older, Sarah Sutton was 19 but I don't think Nyssa was given an age.

So Courtney for companion after Clara goes.
