I want the next companion after Clara to be...

Joe Washington

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
a regenerated version of either Susan, the Doctor's granddaughter or Jenny, the Doctor's genetically engineered soldier daughter from the episode The Doctor's Daughter. The Doctor having someone who's related to him as a companion would create a compelling familial dynamic that fans may enjoy.

What do you think?

I would say fanwank, except for that this season, or one of the approaching seasons, since he seems to have been distracted since this quest began, is supposed to be about finding Gallifrey, and breadcrumbs on the way to Gallifrey is probably other timelords leaking out of the Timewar.

I'm fine with another woman so gorgeous I find that I have already mounted my TV before I even consider playing it cool... But all I really want is a bloke.

Two men travelling space and time, no girls allowed.

THAT would be a new and interesting dynamic to explore.

I don't hate women, but you must admit that there is a bit of a rut as far as companion casting is concerned?

I saw "Jenny" giving birth last year.

Quite enough of her for the duration.

No, the miracle of birth is not beautiful.

Maybe it's funny if you already hate the person giving birth?

But overall I have to be in a particular mood to see that much sweat.

How much life does your TV have left?

Our safeword is "Pickles".

Of course, is there a possibility of no companion?

They can afford higher profile gueststars if the move the budget around because of less retaining staff.

Of course in Britain, the movie actors can't cost that much more, and the audience doesn't care proportionately to the cost if they did.

I see the 7th/Ace as the ultimate avuncular relationship and I hadn't thought of it much until now but Capaldi/Clara has been kind of like a deadbeat dad who hasn't been in his kid's life growing up but now is suddenly there with all the awkwardness that implies. It's like a less-Sandlery version of That's My Boy.

I'm not sure if Who could get away with being more paternal than that with the Doctor's propensity to put his wards in harm's way.

Romana has to be out there somwhere, she was left in E-Space

I want a future Romana incarnation

I would like it if they brought in a male companion--a sort of father-son relationship would be a nice change for The Doctor.

Hmm, that worked quite well for the 2nd Doctor/Jamie pairing, showed "potential" with the 4th Doctor and Andric, but just fell apart when he regenerated. It no longer felt like a "father and son" dynamic, but rather more the antagonism between an older and younger brother. When Tourlough came along, I personally got the sensation of a spiteful cousin.

But given Capaldi's appearance and experience, the "father and son" dynamic jusr might work, assuming the casting director finds the "right" younger actor.

Sincerely,

Bill

I keep thinking that a young, delinquent type character like Ace, or the annoying student from last weeks episode would be interesting.

It would be interesting to have the Doctor recruit a new companion on an unseen adventure and have them introduced casually as you please. "Oh right. Clara, Humphrey. Humphrey, Clara. I could have sworn you met on Talaxus Prime. No, right, those were the cybernetic parrots. Anyways, The Thing! We should do The Thing! Get acquainted later."

It could turn out the Doctor sometimes spends years at a time away from Clara each time he drops her off and he has had these vast untold adventures with the "new" Companion. Suddenly she doesn't feel nearly so special or needed, suddenly she realizes the relationship she thinks she has with The Doctor isn't remotely close to the actual relationship The Doctor has with her.

This was how Mel was introduced, we still haven't seen how she met the Doctor.

I wouldn't mind if he ran into Lady Christina again. I loved her in "Planet of the Dead" and thought she and the Doctor worked well off each other. That she dabbled in activities that weren't particularly legal added an interesting dimension to their relationship, though perhaps she's changed her ways in the past 5 years. It would have been great if the Doctor had whisked her away in the TARDIS at the end, but unfortunately she met him at the wrong time.

I heard she was in an accident, lost an eye, two legs, an arm and an ear. But they were replaced by some government agency and she works for them. Sounds like a soldier now. The Doctor would not be pleased. :)

I approve. :) Being confined to Earth for centuries would be tough on Susan after her human husband's eventual death. And I loved the character of Jenny.

Some time back there was some wistful speculation about maybe Jamie McCrimmon married and had a son, and the son could become the Doctor's new companion (and wear a kilt ;)).

As long as they explain what eventually became of K-9, since I don't want the version that accompanied Romana to just end up in a garbage dump somewhere. K-9 was as much a companion as the organic companions were, and some of us still have affection for him.

Juliet Landau from Buffy/Angel was cast as Romana III quite some time ago and has worked beside Lala a couple times in multiRomana adventures.

Below will be out soon.

There is no picture at that link.

The Fourth Doctor and Adric worked well together. The Fifth Doctor and Adric didn't, since the Doctor was always distracted by Tegan's constant whining at wanting to go back to Heathrow and her stewardess job. Hello, Tegan, time travel, remember?

By this time, I don't even care. One story she was just there, yapping about carrot juice and being really annoying with her screaming.
