NCIS: New Orleans Season One Discussion

I liked it a little better than NCIS L.A., but didn't like it enough that it would upset me if it were cancelled tomorrow.

Ugh, my main problem with the show is the office they work out of. Where the hell is everyone else in the division? Why are they in an open air building with lots of comfy chairs, a kitchen, and a bedroom for Bakula?? It's silly.

The NCIS backdoor pilot episodes ("Crescent City", Pts 1&2) imply that the office is a small Field Office, manned only by Pride and LaSalle originally. Totally unlike the main NCIS base of operations at the Washington Naval Yards, or NCIS:LA's "Office of Special Projects".

So, its a different setting, which will hopefully give the show it's own vibe. No doubt, it will create a few 'Hollywood' clangers concerning local geography or customs, but let's be honest, most TV shows are guilty of that (US, UK or wherever!).

Looking forward to see when we get to see it in the UK. Last couple of NCIS seasons premiered here in January.

I won't be regularly watching this. I'm a huge fan of NCIS, but the NOLA version is like watching a cheap knockoff. The humor seems to work on the mothership, but it feels forced here. And I hate the fake accents.

I liked it, though the fake-accents were a touch grating. And I didn't like the occasional little weird flashes that occurred with every act-in. Though, overall, I'll likely stick with it for now.

That's a staple of every NCIS. They're just trying to switch it up a bit here.

I liked it OK I suppose. It felt too derivative of the original, complete with the coroner and her nerdy sidekick.

I liked tonight's episode. I've always enjoyed outbreak scenarios on TV show, and I thought this one did a good job of handling it. And as I mentioned in my review of the first episode, I feel like there is real chemistry between the characters and they work well together.

I've noticed that so far they haven't done an episode without at least one member of the original NCIS cast: this episode, the backdoor pilot, and next week's episode. I've no doubt that they have episodes coming up that don't include any of that cast, but right now it feels like exactly what it is, that they are there to carry the show. I wish they'd let this show live or die on it's own merits.

Saying that, I did enjoy tonight's episode, it was an improvement over last weeks which was a bit slow. I think the cast is the best part, they have great chemistry already, it makes me want to see what's going to happen next.

I think NCIS: LA did a couple episodes featuring some Vanilla NCIS cast members in its first season, too, so I'm not terribly surprised.

We're really enjoying this, so far. Scott Bakula is doing a bang up job and yup, the new crew do mesh very well. I don't mind the fact we've seen the NCIS crew showing up this early on in the season. They're doing what they have to, early on, to pull in some viewers. I am sure there will be a point where the new crew carry everything on their own with maybe some cross-overs during sweeps weeks.

So far I like it better than LA but only by a little. The humor definitely feels forced, and I totally agree about Bakula's accent. I've always found Black's voice to be a little annoying too, but I've liked him non the less. That's probably because it's always in small doses; I suppose that might change if I stick with the show on a weekly basis. (Still glad he's returning to FF though.)

Is Harmon really one of the show's producers, or is it just one of those things were they're contractually bound to put his name on it? (I assume the latter.)

I should also add I love the theme song. I've been a huge BHT&M fan most of my life, and as covers go that's a pretty good one. (So good they even got Hooker to help out!)

Besides, Todd Park Mohr is a Trekkie--he even gives the Vulcan salute after every show.

Well, you got me there. I just hope after next weeks episode it kind of tapers off. I want to see these characters stand on their own, so far I haven't gotten a chance to.

To kind of say the opposite of what I just said in the last paragraph, I wouldn't mind seeing some of the NCIS: LA crew show up once in a while.

NCIS: LA wasn't his idea and from what I heard he might not be a fan of the show. So NOLA is his response.

Sometimes a producer credit can be a sop or for rights reasons to people who've previously been involved (Glen A. Larson with the NuBSG for example) but for the most part they don't do if they don't have to.

In Harmon's case he's listed as an Executive Producer which isn't a just a title for an empty position it's a position is very involved though might not actually extended beyond the show going into production but they still get the credit.

I read an interview a few weeks ago (I think it was with Gary Glasberg) and he (Glasberg) proposed an idea for a New Orleans-based story for the original NCIS. It was Harmon who said that it sounded like it would work as the basis of a spinoff.

According to CCH Pounder, all the actors from the original show were jumping at the chance to appear on NO.

Abby is supposed to be from NO. Has she been on yet?

Yes she was on this week's episode (on the video link with the pathology guy).

So far only Michael Weatherly is the only one who's appeared live in NCIS:NO since it went to series.

As much as I like seeing Weatherly, they really didn't give the character of Tony much to do and his role could have been filled by anyone else. Kind of a waste of a guest role if you ask me.

I guess I missed that part. I was pretty involved in playing Candy Crush while it was on. :guffaw:

They did mention his previous "experience" as the reason for sending him into situations like that.

The faked accents bug me a lot, especially since they fade in and out.

And there was already one big Hollywood gaffe in the pilot, by the ME who was bragging about being from Oklahoma. She mispronounced the name of her hometown.

Another good episode last night. We got to see just how lethal Pride can be. I really like this cast, the bonding moments between them are handled well.
