NFL 2014-2015 Season Discussion

So after the latest game in the NFL's 'International Series' at Wembley - what are the thoughts on the series from American fans? Would you be happy giving up a home fixture to be played thousands of miles away? I understand that the longer term strategy behind this is to generate enough interest to sustain a franchise in London by 2021 - good thing, bad thing?

Interested to hear thoughts around this as the Premier League (football/soccer) over here have been flirting with a similar idea for a few years, ie. playing annual fixtures abroad. The idea doesn't seem overly popular to most fans here, I'd assume it might be the same with US fans about the international series?

I have no problem with the concept - mostly because my team has never been the team to go. I also don't have season tickets to games so I'm not giving up a game I would otherwise go to. I also don't think I've watched many of the games on TV, so I can't really comment if the travel has hurt the quality of play.

So I guess I'm not very helpful. It'd be better for people actually impacted by it to give some thoughts.

Three words:

Teddy. Teddy. Teddy.

It's time to cut bait with Peterson and move on. I don't want the "idea" around as it's still a distraction, even if the courts free and clear him. The team doesn't need to deal with that nonsense. He can go be Jerry Jones's problem.

Because Teddy. Teddy. Teddy.

Cowboys are 3-1! Wow. Time for them to go 8-2 into the bye week than lose the next 6 games in a row and miss the playoffs.

Dolphins put together a solid game on offense, defense, and special teams. As usual it was because they were playing the Raiders. Chuckle.

Teddy.
IF he is convicted of some crime and then does his time (and I doubt he'll get any jail time), I'de take Adrian Peterson on my team without so much as a blink of an eye. I am a firm believer in second chances once one has paid what he or she owes.

Raiders fire Dennis Allen. The more things change in Oakland, the more they stay the same.

Maybe they can hire Charlie Weis.

The Raiders have the inside track on going 0-16. Can they do it? Can they run the table?

And then blow the #1 pick on who, Ronald McDonald?

Or maybe Grimmace, still better than JaMarcus Russell.

It's the Raiders, they'll probably draft quarterbacks in the first three rounds just for shits and giggles.

And I'm banning anyone who brings up this past Sunday's Bears game.

As a Dolphins fan I have no problem with them giving up a home game and going to London or any other international locale for games, so few people in Miami actually attends the games it's probably better financially for them in the long run anyway.

The biggest problem I see with a team in London in the future is that it would make scheduling and travel a nightmare for teams over the course of a 16 game season.

Fins win! Raiders? Nevermind.

I was stoked with the Dolphins performance, then I had the same realization. It was against the Raiders. :(

.

You just brought it up.

Just remember, it was a team effort.

I don't think we'll go 0-16, that was part of the reason for firing Allen. Had he stayed in charge, our chances of "accomplishing" 0-16 would be much greater. As it is, we'll likely catch some hapless also-ran on a particularly bad day (for them) and get the upset.

In fact, having just brought in a new coach, hearing all of the ridicule directed at the team since the start of the season, facing a long time division rival at home in Sparana's first game, I wouldn't be totally shocked to see them upset San Diego this Sunday. Of course that may turn out to be be the only win of the season.

Well, I'm about "Mike Tomlined" out.

He continually has to "fix" things he should have a handle on to begin with.

For real. After each of his post-loss press conferences, he constantly reminds us he considers himself a crappy coach. Maybe he should resign.

A London team won't be viable until they bring back the Concord--or a suitable replacement. The travel time really is a killer, and it wouldn't take very long before teams start complaining about having to go over there, because they'd lose the extra "event" trimmings they get now if a team was permanently stationed there.

It's the same reason why the NHL isn't international. It would have expanded to Europe years ago (Because unlike American Football, there's actually a healthy market for it.) if it wasn't for the travel time/jet lag.

Mariota is going to be special.

Everything that has been said over the past year or so seems to indicate that a London- based NFL team will get done around the year 2020. While this is certainly a good move for NFL fans in the UK there really are a lot of things that have to be considered, such as the potentially grueling traveling regimen, for example. The players and coaches, for the most part, don't like this idea now and it's only one game per season. I don't know how the league will "fix it" so that there is more of a tolerance regarding the schedule.
It also doesn't look like the NFL is in any great hurry to address this issue before the next owner's meetings in the Spring of 2015.
