Things that annoy you off about TOS

Re: Things that piss you off about TOS

How you can tell when they just reversed the film when the Enterprise is orbiting a planet in opposite directions.

Re: Things that piss you off about TOS

Starfleet only having one type of ship - the Constitution class. Every freakin time we saw another ship it was just the same model at a distance.
I know it was a money issue, but I wish they had just kitbashed a new ship from the same AMT model kit they built the Constellation from, just to give you the impression there was a bigger universe out there.

Re: Things that piss you off about TOS

The "jokey" part at the end of so many episodes. I think the perfect ending is in "Balance of Terror" which is just Kirk walking through the corridors with the weight of command on his shoulders.

Imagine the nerdrage if TOS-R had changed some of the Connies to other ships.

Though they did change some D-7s into BOPs in "The Enterprise Incident.

Women's uniforms. That wide neck looked sloppy and the bottom frequently looked like a tutu trying to conceal a diaper.

Re: Things that piss you off about TOS

It would have been nice of TOS-R took a few more liberties. I would have loved to see some TOS style Miranda and Oberth ships floating in the backgrounds during some episodes.

That's the least they should've done

Using 2010's modern equipment to recreate 60s FX restraints and mistakes was not a great use of their artistic talents.

Hell, the nerd rage was already directed towards them for having the gall to recreate things in CGI in the first place, they might as well have gone the whole hog instead of falling between two stools.

Re: Things that piss you off about TOS

How slow the phaser blasts seemed. Maybe it was how they did SFX but gawd I thought I could easily dodge a blast from a hand phaser. The ship's phasers seemed slow too.

The pointy sideburns bothered me for some reason too. Both male and female :rommie:

I personally don't mind the remastered special effects. I enjoyed them. But then again I found TOS-R first. I did watch the series without the remastered effects and some of the original effects don't hold up well. Not trying to sound rude to TOS, but At least the CBS effects team tried staying true to the source.

And I don't mind CGI. If it's used right, then I don't have a problem with it. If overused like in the Star Wars prequels, then it's just laziness.

Re: Things that piss you off about TOS

...STAR TREK goes around putting glittery togas and pointed hats on people and calls that "The Future," when it won't be, because people don't like to be made to look silly, apart from anything else.
"And, after all, what is a fashion? From the artistic point of view, it is usually a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months."

Outer Limits had some great aliens. 'Behold, Ek!' the 2 dimensional alien explorer trapped in a 3d universe. Good stuff.
Really? Eck? It's a barely animated drawing. I just rewatched Outer Limits recently and while many of the aliens are imaginative, they're frequently not very convincing looking, even in black and white, and often the actors can't emote through the makeup.

I always wondered if the makeup used would've held up in color.

Re: Things that piss you off about TOS

Well, a few of them were reworked and re-used on Star Trek, notably the bird creature and fanged creature in "The Cage/Menagerie", and the Horta, which was a rework of the creature from "The Probe".

I never knew that. Thanks.

Though, while I love the episode, I don't think the Horta came across particularly well. Looks like the pizza burgers they used to serve in elementary school.

Re: Things that piss you off about TOS

It pisses me off that I only got one episode. I also didn't like being left under a rock.

Re: Things that piss you off about TOS

That soft focus filter, mainly on the women, started to take its toll on me at some point over the years.

Re: Things that piss you off about TOS

How in "All Our Yesterdays", Kirk, Spock, and McCoy didn't just explain that they were aliens to Mr. Atoz, Mr. Atoz was unperturbed by Spock even though it was implied that Sarpeidon didn't have space travel, and the Enterprise officers beamed down to an apparently pre-warp planet in the first place.

They did put in some new designs (such as the cargo freighter first introduced in TAS, in both crewed and non-crewed versions) in the occasional background shot.

Oh I know. I love those new effects. The Antares especially. It was nice to see some new ships in Mudd's Women and Is there no truth in beauty.
